I collect things from the road I model. As a gift I just received a stamp that says:

21 - AD&N RY

THIS CAR REPORTED BY YOUR ROAD

____________________ ABSTRACT ATTACHED

DAVID W. SMITH
CONTROLLER

What exactly would this stamp have been used for?

What would this stamp have been called?

What would you stamp with it?

What kind of abstract would be attached?

What would the 21 mean?

Thanks,

I actually found the lady that used to stamp stuff with this stamp and asked her about it.

She said that the 21 was the road # that was assigned to the AD&N by the AAR.

This stamp was used to stamp what she called settlements of divisions for shipments.

The abstract would be the report of the lading and routing of the car.

Divisions, in this case, is the amount that is agreed upon to be paid to each road that participated in the shipment.
