just purchased an Athearn kit (caboose) and it comes with ez-mate couplers. are they compatible with kadee couplers. havent changed to kadee yet but going to.

They're compatible, but they suck. Just plastic junk. I'd keep them on until they break and then change to Kadee's unless you want to be proactive and change them before hand. They'll work ok just fine with Kadee's until they break.

A caboose is probably the only type of car that I would use the plastic couplers on. Because the caboose is not likely to be anywhere except the end of the train, it won't have the weight of the train pulling on it. That is probably the only "saving grace" of plastic couplers.

Thats the first thing I do when I get an Athearn, or any other manufacturers kits. Toss the couplers that come with them and replace with KD's. I still have ready to runs that need repalcing.
