Good I don't know what the heck time of day it is!

We got in about an hour ago from Miami (1:30 AM). We were delayed on the taxiway arriving from Curacao and then our flight to Philly was delayed boarding and taking off from Miami.

The only reason I am still up is because I am trying to unwind and stretch out my aching legs. They don't make plane searts for 6'-1" 275 Lbs folk!

I'll report in some time tomorrow.

Morning from Charlotte International. Waiting for flight to Miami. Teach class for new staffers at Bass Pro Shops. Then hooking up with O gauge train buddy there in Miami. All have a great day.

Good luck with the Miami Airport. Worst airport I have ever been in. It was bad 13 years ago and has not gotten any better. It may have gotten worse.

    When I get a chance I'll give a full report:mrgreen:

    Good evening,

Nice day today, not to hot. Last evening was members night at the Harrisburg Chapter of the National Railroad Historical Society. I had a display of 12 PRR engines along with a short history of the prototype and a picture. Only thing I forgot was my camera. :sad:wall1

There were no operating O gauge layouts, but a static display of tinplate and two members who were in outfits that operated military trains, one in WW2 and the other Korea had a display of literature and a train of armor on flat cars that was the length of 3-8' tables. Also 3 operating HO layouts and one N. Lots of other stuff, lanterns, clocks, signs, etc. Fun night, I took my 86 year old uncle who is a former PRR, Penn Central, Amtrak railroader.

Got a call from the LHS that my MTH, PRR L1 Mikado (lettered for Lehigh & New England) has come in. Hope to pick it up tomorrow. The PRR sold some of these to smaller roads after WW2.

    Take care,

I think you can tell that I’m out of my retirement since I have been too busy to drop by. The new job is cool and I even spent Tuesday on the Golf Course all day. Golf is one of those things I love but don’t do very well.

The farm is back in shape and with all that rain it looks like springtime since everything is bright green. I don’t get much free time anymore since back to a full time job in addition to the farm work. Now I have to make one of those hard choices more trains or a new Priefert Squeeze Chute. Something tells me the Priefert will win because I really do need the Squeeze Chute. I have a steer with a large abscess so the vet is going to need the chute. I’m hoping to find a used one instead of putting out the $3,100 for a new one.

It looked like it was going to rain all day but so far it hasn’t. The temp was up but the cloud cover kept everything cool. I would like to see some more rain since that means I don’t have to start feeding hay in August.

    Good morning folks

It is humid around the Delaware valley this morning and we are expecting showers and thunderstorms at some point during the day. It is 80 F now with a high of 92 F expected. My son is supposed to have his first football scrimmage tonight, so hopefully the rain will hold off.

I finished weathering the trucks on the seven tank cars I started before vacation. Now I need to weather the bodies.

Speaking of vacation this is the first chance I have gotten to post something since we got back Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. We went to Curacao, Netherlands Antilles. We had great weather. The food was great and the locals treated us nicely. We did a bunch of snorkeling and swimming. We also toured the island and were amazed by its diversity and contrasts. The city of Willemstad has some outstanding architecture and beauty. It is currently undergoing a massive restoration project. We visited various natural wonders such as the underwater caves at Boca Tabla, the beautiful beaches such as Knipbay. Since the island is very arid there was plenty of cactus everywhere. We visited an ostrich ranch and the Curacao Liqueur Distillery.

The only bad thing I can say about the vacation was regarding air travel. The flights to Curacao were uneventful. The one problem we did have was with TSA and their checking of our checked luggage. They basically destroyed all of our shampoos, soaps, sunscreen, toothpastes. It appeared that tested everything which I can understand. Lucky for us we had things in Ziplock bags which they sprayed or squeezed everything into. I would recommend that anyone travels to pack extra Ziplock bags to replace the ones that are filled with various soaps, sunscreens, etc. Coming home the flight from Curacao was Okay except once we got to Miami we sat for about 40 minutes on the taxiway waiting for a gate. Going through Immigration and Customs was relatively easy since we had all our documentation filled out before hand. Once we got to the terminal that our flight was leaving from we found that they only had one eatery and the food was outrageously expensive, even for an airport. My wife bought 2 sodas, 2 sandwiches, and a bag of chips and spent $22.00. Also the people running the establishment were as friendly as a pit of angry rattlesnakes. My son and I had to go through two other terminals to find better food which we did and brought back to my wife and daughter. We got 4 personal pizzas, two orders of breadsticks, one hot dog, and two sodas for $23.00. Our flight was supposed to leave Miami at 8:45 PM. It was moved back to 9:10 PM. We did not begin boarding until 9:45 PM. By the time we landed in Philadelphia and got our luggage it was close to 1 AM and it was about 1:30 AM when we got home. If all had gone according to schedule we should have been home well before midnight. If we travel that way again I will try to avoid the Miami Airport like the plague. We have been through there three times now and each time it got worse than the time before.

Sorry for the rant and I guess it is time for me to pipe down.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Tom & Chief, The nice thing about retirement is that I don't have to fly anymore. Not that I don't like to fly, it is getting through the airports that is the killer. If we can't get there by train, car or boat, we don't go. :thumb:

BTW, I had PBS on my car radio the other day and they were interviewing a security screener from the Philadelphia airport. At the end of the interview they asked him if he ever has problems when he flys. His answer was that he never flys, hasn't since he was 13 years old. How is that for faith in the system!

    Take care,

I put everything in ziploc bags. I put my keys, money, nailclippers, pen, cell phone and etc in my briefcase/laptop case and it goes through the xray. Don't mess with those little round doggie bowls. TSA loves that and you can get all that out when you put your shoes on or at your gate. I check my main roller bag [pretty big one]. At Prattville AL BPS. In room at Holiday Inn across the street. Resting. Went to store and did my "entry chores" [restocked shelves as they are never done right, rearranged an end cap and put up two POP posters. Then at 3 PM my time [they are CDT], I finally got to eat for the first time today.

    HOT and dry here. Later

My wife came up with a great statement this afternoon. If we ever have to go to the Miami Airport again we'll take the train to Orlando and drive! 22 hours on Amtrak is alot less stressful than dealing with that airport.

Fly to Ft. Lauderdale, ride the train or rent a car. that airport is a lot better than Miami. I did not want rental car expense since hotel was at airport with shuttle.

Miami now what can I say about Miami? You do know it is really a third world nation that just happens to be located in the United States. Yeah I’m not a great fan of Miami I would rather be stranded in Immokalee. At least there is some great Boar hunting close by. Now that I think of it I never took the plane into Miami 22 years ago for the same reason.

A few years back I tried to show my kids where my wife and I lived in Winter Park. I got lost because they cut all the trees down and replaced them with shopping centers and homes.

In any event I feel your pain about the airport in Miami.

Wow I actually have an evening off since the storm clouds are heading in tonight. We had a decent amount of rain last night and more is on the way. I think this is the first time since spring that I am going to have to cut the grass twice in one week.

Well I’m just keeping in touch since my favorite forum here has taken a break this summer. I hope the fall will bring some more action to the O scale forum.

    Good morning folks

I feel like I am back in Curacao with the heat and humidity this morning. It was downright unpleasant when I walked out the door. According to the cicadas that were buzzing in the trees this morning it is going to be a hot one. Weather guessers say it is going to be 89 F with lessening humidity. It is only 79 F now but it felt hotter.

My son had a good scrimmage last night. He played middle linebacker and defensive tackle which are the positions he wants to play. He got Shanghaied into playing offensive tackle when the projected starter did not performed well. My son was annoyed because after the scrimmage the coach said he may have earned a starting position at OT. My son hates the offensive line. Despite his dislike for the position he did make me proud when after the scrimmage and I was talking to him, he said he would do play the position because the team needed him. The concept of teamwork seems to be finally sinking in.

I began weathering the tank cars. I hit each of them with a wash. Next is some airbrush weathering of the bottom of the cars.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Morning all. Slept like a log. About time I got some sleep. Those early flights were getting to me. Went wondering and found a train track out in the swamp/boonies. CSX coal train came by. May do some more exploring today as a break from store. Will have camera ready next time. Hot down here but so it is in NC. Set a record high there yesterday. Later
