I bought one at Radio Shack. It is a resistance soldering gun. I find it useful for light soldering. I works great on layout wiring, especially rail joints, you won't melt the ties. I don't have to drag my PBL resistance soldering station to the layout anymore.

I bought one at Radio Shack. I works great for most light soldering. It is a resistance soldering tool. I really like it for layout wiring, especially soldering rail joiners, you don't melt the plastic ties. I don't have to drag my PBL resistance soldering station to the layout.
Hope that helps

I was thinking about getting one. I have a butane iron. I mostly use it to solder PL-259 connectors to my Ham Radio antenna cables. As for soldering wires together. I like ALOT of heat!!! I use a 250w gun. You are in and out very fast. Can you believe I took a year class on how to solder for my electronics degree!? :O
