I have an AHM ATSF light pacific loco (HO scale) which I'm thinking of converting into a CNR loco. It should be easy to remove the decals and add new CN ones.

But, being a stickler for historical detail, I thought I should check first to see if CN actually used such light pacifics. Perhaps I'll upload a pic of it tonight, but it's pretty much the type of pacific you see here: http://tycotrain.tripod.com/ahmhoscaletrainscollectorsresource/id109.html although mine is all black.

I tried googling this topic today but didn't get too far.
Thanks again for any feedback & historical info!

    Rob

I'm going to hazard a guess, and say that yes they did have them, but no, they did not look anything like the ones in your link.

I think your best bet for CN steam info is doctorwayne and CN nutbar...! ;)

MR did an article a (long) while back about kitbashing a CNR Pacific. I'll try to remember to look it up for you. I think it was mid-1980s?

Thanks again, Andrew! I'd be interested in the article but I don't think I want to kitbash this loco, really, because it's just too nice! I would be open to changing its livery though (if it's "historically accurate" to do so!).

    Cheers, Rob

The loco in your pics does not have a lot of detail, and the two that I see missing (with my limited knowledge) is a feedwater heater on the top of the smokebox (very typical CNR appliance), and an all-weather or vestible cab (although not all CNR Pacifics had them).

I would recommend a look at any of Ian Wilson's Steam... books. CNR ran lots of Pacifics in a wide variety of roles in southern Ontario in the 1950s.

Thanks, Andrew. Maybe it won't be that hard to convert after all. And I might be able to get one of Wilson's books this summer. Rob

I believe the article started with Bowser's NYC K-11 pacific. It's located in the March 1980 issue.

    Rob,

I believe I have it if you can't locate your own copy.

Thanks, Andrew! No rush, but I'd be curious to see it if you could photocopy or scan it. Could you please email PDFs to me or mail photocopies? I'd be happy to reimburse you for the cost and I could PM my address info to you. Thanks again, Rob
