there are quite a few. It all depends on what area of Chicago you are going to. A lot of them are listed in Model Railroader.
Most of the cities listed are up there:
Berwyn Griffith, IN G&G Hobbies
Bradley
Burbank
Des Plaines
Elburn
Elgin
Elmhurst
Libertyville
Morton Grove
Orland Park
Palos Heights
Park Ridge
Skokie
Wheeling

Theres also a couple i didnt see in there that are pretty good. Near the border of IN, and IL on US 30 in Dyer there is one but I can't remember the name of it. He usually has some pretty good deals and had some S scale stuff last time I was there.

Be sure to visit America's Best Train and Hobby in Itasca at Rohlwing Road and Route 19 (Irving Park). I have visited most of the hobby stores in the Chicago area and found America's Best to have the most stuff.

Lombard Hobby in Lombard seems to be the best if you are only looking for loco's and cars. Huge selection but not much other stuff.

The Walthers and/or Atlas websites have a list of local hobby stores as well as the Model Railroader magazine.

Best of luck...Bring lot's of $$ or leave the wallet at home.
