I didn't think my models were going to have this kind of recognition. On Saturday, DesertCon contest gave my card models three medals.

Ralph Currell's Concorde FedEx and Pepsi livery won first and second; and same designer's SpaceShip One won Honorable Mention.

The president of the local club announced that the IPMS now recognizes paper in national contests, so DesertCon was no exception to this rule.

I think we are going in the right direction, ladies and gentlemen.

    Thanks guys.
You are totally right, Bow... I've seen armor models made of wood from scratch that would awe anyone.
Paper is now in our hands.

    Excellent result Gerardo!!!!! Congratulations!!!
I'm trying to introduce paper modelling to a local plastic modeller club (GPAL, Grupo Plastimodelismo de Alagoas), with probably a participation of paper models in a contest in Aracaju, Sergipe state, on next 4-5 november.

Add my hearty "Congratulations!" to the list. The awards are well-deserved, and those are some fine-looking models.

And, yes, we are moving in the right direction....

I also wish you a hearty "Congratulations, and Well Done!" And you are correct -- the 2007 IPMS/USA Nationals in Anaheim, California WILL have special categories for paper models! I strongly encourage all paper modelers to consider attending this contest next August 22-25. Imagine staging a West Coast paper model mini-convention WITHIN the largest North American PLASTIC model convention, with Disneyland practically across the street! How can you beat that? :)

This is what the IPMS is arranging for next year's nationals:

"In addition to the Special Themed Awards, we will be having a special Section with category divisions for paper models. These will be separate categories so the paper will not be judged against the plastic, but will utilize the same basic criteria outlined in the IPMS/USA Competition Handbook."
