I have a proto 2000 BL-2 engine that I have had for a number of years. I purchased it brand new and ran it for a couple years. It started developing a clicking noise which appears to be a problem with the trucks. It has been sitting in its box for a few years and i just took it out and started tinkering with it. I have been unable to fix the problem. This is apparently a common problem with first run BL-2 proto locos. Does anyone know what exactly this problem is and if it can be corrected?

The only problem I've heard of with the early Proto 2000 engines is the cracked gear problems they had.

It does sound like the gear problem. I had a Proto 2000 GP-18 where the gears split along the axles. I called Lifelike and they sent me new wheelsets, no charge. I understand their new owner, Walthers, is honoring the waranties.

Yep, it sounds like the split axle problem. If you've got any old Athearn diesel wheelsets lying around, the axle is the same, so you could swap them out.
