It was stopped just before it went over the crossing. The lights were flashing, but there are no gates, so traffic could still cross. As soon as the man in the picture got back in the cab, they blew the horn and headed south.

A siding begins to the right of the railroad crossing. Northbound train crews that are stopped in the siding often walk over to the nearby convenience store (where I was parked). So, it might not have been strictly a "mechanical" problem that they stopped for. ;)

Funny.... We have the exact same thing just a few blocks from my house.
Convenience store included.

I wondered why I saw trains stopped there so often............
