Well as always sunday morning is train time. This week we went east if Winnipeg. Started off well, found our first train in Oakbank Manitoba.

    This one to be exact.

    Notice anything?

    These units perhaps.

then about 5 minutes later this came along.

After that we headed to Elma Manitoba along CN's east/west mainline.
a few minutes(30) later this came along.

And that ended the day. Not a single train the whole way back to town.
Ah well still saw some at least.

Really cool! I had no idea that those F units would still be in service. They're bascially mid-1950s loco, right? that I'd expect to be used on heritage railways. They appear to be in excellent condition as well! Rob

Maybe the F units were being used as power, but perhaps they were just being moved. A number of railroads have resurrected older units and refurbished them for use on office car specials etc. I'm sure somebody "up there" will know more than my speculation, however.

I was digging around looking for more info on those F-units and found that they are ex-Ohio Central units, which CP purchased to power the Royal Canadian Pacific excursion train. Prior to Ohio Central, the units were VIA 6307 and 6313, and before that, CNR 6515/6526. Since CPR's last F-unit was numbered 4105, these two "new" locos became 4106/4107.
Here's where I found this info:

This rings a bell now as I recall reading about this somewhere. I'm still curious to find out where they were going and where they might be used! Thanks, Rob
