Hmmmmm, if you're meaning to get creative and use items you might already have...how about scraping off black dust from a chuck of charcoal from your grill to lightly brush on, or maybe borrow some make up materials from your wife for the same purpose, and don't forget the way that cleaning products like 409 can fade and even remove lettering and logos on rolling stock. Just a few things off the top of my head.
