| The NS 7 a.m. Raleigh Yard Job came off today as it was returning light
| back from dowtown. I was able to catch it on tape. Don't think I'll
| ever see something like this again.

|
| It started pouring after this, and I had to go, so I didn't see the
| cleanup and repair. Can anyone figure out what could have put this
| train on the ground? The track in the yard isn't in good condition, but
| I wouldn't think a light HH would break a rail.

Hi Everyone,
That de-railment video was not some sort of conspiracy or a purpose filled grudge against N.S..
It was just simply, a lucky chance to see a very rare occurance. It was filmed by a guy named Greg Pope who is a memeber of a site called Rail-Video.net and is a Rail-Fan and like myself out and about now and again taking pictures of Trains for a hobby.
So there was nothing planned or suspisious about it. Just the right place at the right time and can happen to anyone.

Dialogue...

Engineer: Alright! We have a little problem... We just hit the ground hard!
Dispatcher: Where?
Engineer: In the street "Up-switch" (pause) We hit it hard!

I've been looking at the video and there appears to be a small red flag/target near ground level that may indicate a yard limit derail. Or they may have hit a turnout that was not aligned for their route.

The loco jumps up and over to the side like it hit a derail.

Talking about having a bad day.

That "target" is a switch stand..

What probably happen is the engine split the switch by picking the points. This can because by the switch handle not being secured by the switch handles latch.

Reminds me of an old verse that I'm sure mmost of you already know:

I'm not allowed to run the train, the whistle I can't blow
I'm not allowed to say how far and when the train will go.
I'm not allowed to let off steam, or even ring the bell,
But let the darn thing jump the tracks, and see who catches H**l! announce1
