12' by 17' room for HO layout...

Hi all...

I have just secured the rights to an area in my basemant 12' by 17' with 2 walls...one on the 12' section and the other on the 17' section.

Any ideas on how to utilize that space? I was thinking around the walls no more than 2' deep with maybe a peninsula. This will be an HO layout and my 2nd, the 1st was a 4' by 8'.

I want to model the 50's and 60's, in particular, the Boston & Maine.

Hi Bob, and welcome to the gauge.
If I had a room size of 12' by 17' I would be thinking of an island railroad 5' wide by 14' long. This gives more for a scenic layout, but I am biased towards a logging layout, perhaps you want to have a mainline with multi lashups. There are some layout plans for a 13' by 26' on my website.
