were can you find after market boards for loco's just had one fixed ouch!!!. :curse:  If I can't find a way to fix these cheaper myself they well become DC. :thumb: Is that possible to get rid of the boards and run on DC without the whistles and bells. Simple toys may be more fun. ;)

    What loco do you have?
If I'm not mistaken the newer lionels use a DC motor and can be wired to run with a DC power pack.
I built a solid state reverse unit and horn for one of my old FAs that I repowered with a DC motor. It was a real pain in the butt to get working.
    The reversing unit uses a 555 timer, a 4013, a 7805 regulator 2 relays, 2 transistors, 2 bridge rectifiers, 4 capacitors, 3 resisters and a diode.
The timer was used to get a clean signal to stop the loco from shifting when going over switches or dirty track.
Here's the schematic I scratched out (if you can decipher it).
