Zimmerit was an anti magnetic paste applied to the outer armor of tanks
to prevent the enemy from attaching magnetic mines to tank. The Germans
developed it realizing that as they themselves had magnetic mines, the enemy
might have them as well, and employ them in the same manner.

Nebeltex,
Great looking tanks!!!

Just a helpful hint.
Why not put a link to your site in your announcements to help out the newbies. There are people joining this site everyday.

Also you could consider putting a link in your signature, then you do not have to even think about it.:)

That is a nice tank. :D
BTW what is zimmerit?

Here's a reasonably definitive account of Zimmerit: http://www.afvnews.ca/zimmerit.html

The use of Zimmerit was stopped in September 1944 so late war vehicles didn't have it.

The "ambush" camouflage scheme (the dappled effect) was introduced in August 1944 so there probably wouldn't have been too many Tiger IIs with Zimmerit and an ambush scheme.

there is a well known series of photos showing s.Pz.Abt. 503 in paderborn germany, prior to deployment, in september '44. while many are in the three color camouflange, a good number are done in "ambush".

Sounds like s.Pz.Abt. 503 got a decent chunk of the Tiger II production from
August 1944. From the unit history at http://www.alanhamby.com/unithist.html#503

"19 September 1944 - 22 September 1944 Equipped with 45 Tiger IIs, 47 on hand"

Charlie
