Considering how close ships are to my heart, I'm surprised that I don't do ships that often, so I figured that I might as well do one of the ships I've always wanted to do - a frigate of Her Majesty's Navy.
(Also, the ship I work at is now selling hard copies of my models in her gift shop, so the more relevant models I produce, the more money I get)

What I've discovered so far is that sailing vessels are EXTREMELY tedious, but as of now, I have the hull done. Suffice it to say that I'm not too excited about doing the sails...

Words cannot describe how tedious doing the sails are.

I helped volunteer some restoration work on the "Surprise', when she was know as "The Rose', and moored at Bridgeport, Connecticut. Great ship! :)

Oh my god, the sails are done. The ____ing sails are finally ____ing done.
And with that, so are all the parts! As much as I want to build this tomorrow or sometime sooner within the week, I'm saving this for Friday, as my boyfriend wants in on this as well

She was offered as a gift to the State of Connecticut for FREE! The original owner had paid for the building of the ship which has some of the original canons from the HMS Rose, but the state refused stating that during the revolutionary war, a farmer was killed by one of her cannon balls, so they did not want the ship. I think that was one of the most short sighted thing this state has done ( can the "THE", as the list is long). The ship is well built, meeting all modern standards, but she is a real sailing boat and really is a beautiful ship. I'm glad she is where she is and admired by so many.

I had the privilege of being anchored about 500 feet from her when the ship shot her cannons in time to the simulcast of Tchaikovsky 1812 overture over the radio. It was quite an experience to hear the guns go off. Much louder than you would think. I was barbecuing steak off of the stern of the 10 meter Pearson with a special rig that you could just drop into the ocean if anything went wrong. Great steaks!! :)

Wow, that sounds like it must have been AMAZING! Always wanted to see a tall ship fire off her guns in real life

All that's left are the sails...let's hope they mask the screw-ups...

Looks good Bryan. Might I suggest maybe some detailed strips to go around the inside railing to give it more detail and cover up the white. Other than that it looks great.

Did the BF build this or did you? If he did you taught him well. :)

Keep up the good work, looking forward to your next design.

He helped quite a bit with cutting out parts and assembling some of the masts :p

I've added gunport details, and one of the pages can be printed out and used as an interior for the gunwhales.

Got it :) Once I get the ink I will build it, course you know I will have to add my flavor to it and do a little detail. ;)
