Star Trek DS9:- Operation Return Diorama - 'micro' build log

Thanks starbuck :D I'm into the home stretch on these now:- I will be layering these pods - I just have to work out which parts to inset and which to project.

The main body is now complete and the parts for the ventral 'pod' are being cut and edge-coloured:-

Star Trek DS9:- Operation Return Diorama - 'micro' build log

Thanks guys :D. It's an old Motorola Razr that has the Star Trek style flip open cover - although the hinge is a bit stiff to do Kirk's wrist twist to open it - lol.

Star Trek DS9:- Operation Return Diorama - 'micro' build log

@spaceagent-9 I remembered to take the photo of the phone:- I just laminated a pic I found online and stuck it onto the flip cover. I tried using black paint for the rest, but it wore off the first time I put it in my pocket. After scraping off the remaining paint I used black insulating tape...

Star Trek DS9:- Operation Return Diorama - 'micro' build log

@spaceagent-9 I'll see what I can do Jim - I laminated the grill flip-cover so there might be glare off the camera flash... All the scoring is done and I've cut the parts for all ten cruisers. I started edge colouring as well. I decided to have insets for the grill panels; no individual grill...

Star Trek DS9:- Operation Return Diorama - 'micro' build log

Aye, I'm still alive ;) Page three is finished and I've started on pages 4 and 5:- I'm going to add a layer for the recesses on the rear protrusions. If I was only doing one of these I would also layer the mauve grill sections. The strips for the edges of the wings are ~0.5mm thick so I'll...

Star Trek DS9:- Operation Return Diorama - 'micro' build log

@Rhaven Blaack lol - no, it's 'only' 10 cruisers, but there are 25 Cardassian Galors in the pipeline, as well as 7 Mirandas, 2 Sabres and 5 Klingon bop's. When this one is done I'll be taking a break from dioramas I reckon! ;)

Star Trek DS9:- Operation Return Diorama - 'micro' build log

Loads of contouring folds, a gazillion fold scores and a few calluses later, the bulk of the upper wing surface is complete for the ten cruisers:- Joining the front section to the main 'wing' section took eight paper strips each, ie 80 tiny bits of paper to connect all ten - lol. Three...

Star Trek DS9:- Operation Return Diorama - 'micro' build log

After what seems like an eternity, all the pieces were edge-coloured, strapped with thin paper strips and joined up. I then cut the ten page 2's along with their layers:- I'm using an Eaglemoss model as a rough guide, so that's led me to recess the grey rectangles and have three very narrow...

Star Trek DS9:- Operation Return Diorama - 'micro' build log

@Rhaven Blaack My post wasn't very clear - lol. I've got 10 of the cruisers to build so it's only one extra sheet for the layers :). Today was spent cutting the other nine first pages.. This appears to be the underside and I don't think there are any layers on these pieces. Obviously I'll...

Star Trek DS9:- Operation Return Diorama - 'micro' build log

I rescaled and lightened the template for the Jem'hadar cruiser and ran off 20 copies to allow for layers. This is the first page of parts:-

Star Trek DS9:- Operation Return Diorama - 'micro' build log

Everything connected gives me two 40mm long Steamrunners:- Next up is the Federation attack fighter. I found some orthographics for in interwebland (sorry, I can't give you credit because I can't remember whose they were) and extended the wings to compensate for the tilt before shrinking them...

Star Trek DS9:- Operation Return Diorama - 'micro' build log

The central piece for the bridge had to be trimmed a bit, but I completed the saucers then cut the second page of parts and some layers:-

Star Trek DS9:- Operation Return Diorama - 'micro' build log

Thanks guys :D. There's no reason for the different colour schemes other than having a bit of variety :). I'll be doing all the different colour schemes of Galor as well, although it won't be quite as obvious as there's going to be 25 of them! I'm also using both colour schemes of the next ship...

Star Trek DS9:- Operation Return Diorama - 'micro' build log

@spaceagent-9 lol - you're getting too used to wee Hidekis and Jemmie bugs ;). I've always preferred the D7/K'tinga, although the bop is growing on me as well. The rehab lasses seem to be the same the world over - my dad had the same with his after he had stents put in... Yep, that's a pretty...

Star Trek DS9:- Operation Return Diorama - 'micro' build log

@spaceagent-9 I'm working on three vor'chas - getting bogged down with the nacelles as I don't have anything small enough to wrap the smallest parts around to shape them properly. 2cm? lol They're 2" ;)

@spaceagent-9 I can get in front because my scissors don't need to cut as much ;)
