OK... I Admit It.... I'm Cheating.

Just got back from that site. All I can say is "neat". Sorry to hear about the trestlebut part of the fun is making things work when stuff goes wrong. Keep us up to date with pictures please and thanks.

OK... I Admit It.... I'm Cheating.

That color is going to leave a lasting impression on my retina's for the next little while yet. Takes me back 15 years ago to when my son was in diapers. Neat design but got a question as I'm not familiar with these types of bases. Is the back or bottom of the layout left open for access or...

    how many is enough?

If you find that you have too many ... I'm sure that there are those out there who would be more than happy to help with that problem  The only "too many" I seem to have trouble with are the too many other demands on my time.

    Temporarily secure flex track?

Plain flat thumbtacks on the outside of the ties. Easy to put in, quick twist with a small screwdriver to get out.

    Decoder in Bachmann saddle-tank loco

Before anything else I'd check that the solder connections didn't contact anything else and check the pickups for any warpage. First thought that popped into my head.

    Mine rails?

Just a quick thought. I read your post yesterday and while working on my track last night got to thinking about it. Started playing around and put a couple of straightened paper clips down beside the tracks. While it might be a bit of a bugger to work with it looked about right for a light...

    Just another new member

Hello and welcome. That's quite a grocery list of parts you have there but my guess is that you'll be modeling the mid to late 50's or early 60's. Late steam and early deisels. (Great era by the way). The steam engines can be either coal or oil fired and the deisels can pick up fuel from the...

    N track code 80 help

Myself.. As a new guy to the hobby I am finding that Atlas products are readily available and have had no problems with DCC. Also there are more than 1 option for turnouts from Atlas now. I have had to shim the turnouts along the guide rail and deepen the frog on a couple of them to allow for...

    Layout 101

Wow.. Quite a list. Going to assume that you are modeling HO so the perfomance aspect of the equiptment I'll leave to the experts but i think you'll be OK running your trian length. DC (conventional) and DCC do not mix. You have to stick with one type of control unless the sections of...

    Drive In models

The last train show I went to, they used one of those smaller portable DVD players mounted in a way that only the screen showed. The rest was mounted on a bracket that went below the scenery level. What made it really slick is that the baseof the screen hid the rest of the player. Some of...

    Older Bachmann 0-8-0

That is a good point too Shaygetz. I and probably most pet owning, layout owners have more than enough trouble keeping things out of my loco's runnung gears without producing metal filings right next to them. I will probably delegate this loco to the paper mill I'm bashing right now, that way...

    Older Bachmann 0-8-0

Thanks Guys I might just try filing the frogs and keep it in one industry. As far as installing the decoder goes, I've been lurking here for a long time  and have had no troubles with installing them in other engines. I just follow the advice of those who have done it before.:thumb:

    Older Bachmann 0-8-0

Hi all Was in the LHS the other day and picked up an older Bachmann 0-8-0 cheap. Runs like a charm on dc but the flanges on the wheels are huge. Going through a code 80 turnout (Atlas) the flanges ride up on the bottom of the plastic frog insulators. Will be using DCC for the layout...

    Trian show in Calgary AB

I finally got a chance to attend a Train Show here in Calgary last weekend and after negotiating a dinner out, my domestic CEO agreed to come along. Holy Crap. The layouts... the trains... the vendors (heheheh) The CEO was so impressed by the display she never once mentioned "Men...
