    New Desktop Layout

The cardboard taped seems the way to go with shaping hills, that and using newspaper bunched up. With the plaster, I was going to use that plaster cloth that you put in water then stick on the layout. Sounds nice and easy. Not sure on some of the other things as I haven't got that far with...

It is looking good! It is amazing how well these layouts take shape from humble beginnings. I've been inspired by your layout and it has helped getting mine underway.

New N Scale Layout - Basic Project to Learn the good stuff

Thanks everyone. Hopefully some filler from woodland scenics will patch up the risers. In fact I tried the foam putty and found it quite good. The foam cutter is OK, but can be very imprecise. Although that could also be my fault as I rush things sometimes. Might attack it again...

Thanks for the words of encouragement, I've really needed them of late, but things are moving which gets the motivation going!

    New N Scale Layout Ideas

The inner is 12.5" and the outer is 2.5" I know it is short, but I don't have much flexibility to change it. Also the yards are small, with only one track for carraiges. I guess it really isn't a layout for switching operations.

New N Scale Layout - Basic Project to Learn the good stuff

That looks pretty neat too. That mountain is big! Hopefully not too heavy. Any chance of a photo from the other side showing the bridge?

New N Scale Layout - Basic Project to Learn the good stuff

I've been thinking about building a layout for several years now and after being frustrated with lack of room available for a HO layout, I've decided to go N scale. Plan is pretty basic, but I had a few requirements. - A double main line (of sorts) - Bridges and a river bed (ending in a...

    New N Scale Layout Ideas

I did see that layout and it certainly looked very good. I am determined to use the above plan so that I can incorporate two bridges and a culvert. The switches only cost me AUD$11.20 ea, so pretty happy with that. Thanks for the suggestion and feedback though.

    New N Scale Layout Ideas

OK not to be deterred and this maybe boring as for some... but here is the latest idea... The top sections are going to be raised, not 100% sure but possible 1/2" for the inner track with the truss bridges and 1" for the outer track with the viaduct. There is also room for the engine...

    New N Scale Layout Ideas

Cool, thanks that makes more sense. I suspect I don't have the room to do this justice. SO back to the drawing board.

    New N Scale Layout Ideas

Correct it is a viaduct, must gave been brain fade, or a bit of roman inspiration! I might try and put a run around at the top, but not sure. I'll have a bit of a play with it.

Need some ideas for my mini layout (pics!)

That looks very good considering the time spent on it. What about a small town in the centre and a complimenting industry? You could have a road out to the left of your cross over. With the ballast, would it be worth trying some fine black cinders? How about some more photos? BTW...

    New N Scale Layout Ideas

OK, here is an extended layout using 2 module boards in an L shape... This incorporates my wants, which are... Double main line Industries Yard Engine House (can be moved to the 3 line yard if need be) Bridges I'm hoping to make some progress with this on the weekend. I'll...

    New N Scale Layout Ideas

Thanks for that, the 2nd one wasn't very well thought out compared to the third. Also I forgot to mention there is a viaduct at the bottom of the 2nd design, so run around would be inpractical. Some of what you have said has gone over my head a bit though  Also I should clarify...

    New N Scale Layout Ideas

Been trying to come up with a layout for a few months now and even started building a HO one. To keep the motivation going, I have switched to N scale for now and plan to use one of my HO modules as a base. It is 775mm x 1210mm, so will be big enough for a small N scale layout. Here is a...

New Layout - First time builder

The Blue and Grey areas would normally be at the front if it was going to remain point to point. The double track is something I wanted to do and the turn at the right with the switch would be extended. The area to the left is supposed to be a rail yard or freight terminal kind of thing...
