It's a 50cm grid. It all works out fine. I've actually have most of it glued down now and wired up. I'll post pictures soon. I've been a bit busy with work though.

What size grid do you think it is?

Iron Ore Mine & Steel Mill in N

You're absolutely right Josh, I did do that on purpose. The main line is 100% separate to all the switching. The only thing transported on th main line will be iron ore. This will be loaded at the far left region at the long branch lines there. This iron ore will then either be taken to the...

Iron Ore Mine & Steel Mill in N

I’ve finally come up with a track plan that I like. I’m sure it will mature with time, but at least I have a starting point. The main line is highlighted in blue. It was important to me to have a design where I could have a looped main line that I can let a train go do its thing while I...

    Another Layout Thread

Do you already have your locos and rolling stock? if so, what are you using for a switcher? I'm looking for ideas for what to get.

    Realistic Water

Fantastic pics guys. Thanks for the advice. I like the idea of "low odour" since I have a little fella who likes hanging out with dad. For the harbour, I would want it to be very calm with no sense of movement, and very murky and green. I'll do a few tests with painting to simulate this, and...

    Realistic Water

I’ve never modelled water before and I was wondering if people could post their success / horror stories about different products. (i.e.Woodland Scenics Realistic Water, E-Z Water, or various epoxy products.) I have a large area to cover (approx. 3.5’ x 2’) and want to simulate a deep harbour...

A bit of an update: Still working on the two blast furnaces… lots of fiddly bits, but getting it put together steadily. Minor progress on ore dock and bridge crane. Received the three car shop kits and have started to paint and construct for the blast house. Lots of windows!!! Ripping up...

Iron Ore Mine & Steel Mill in N

I had originally planned on combining my two blast furnaces to make one large one. But after having a look at the asymmetrical nature of the cast houses I decided that it would be too much work to take this on. I am planning on combining two rolling mills together as you did too give that nice...

Iron Ore Mine & Steel Mill in N

I'm quite familiar with those threads. You've done a fantastic job and have done all of us a great service posting your progress from one stage to another. It's always nice to have an additional resource like that when something in the instruction sheets isn't clear.

Iron Ore Mine & Steel Mill in N

I decided that I would start to build my two blast furnaces today. I’m sure these photos will conjure up reminiscent memories for any of you who have constructed this brilliant kit before. I’m finding the instructions overall pretty good, but there have been a couple of errors where the part...

    Glueing Foam Board to Benchwork

I use liquid nails, and it works great. In fact, I'm in the process of trying to remove some foam sheets now, and it's proving to be a very tough job. I like using a hot glue gun to fix foam incline set to the foam board. If I want the incline to be curved, I pin into place and use hot glue in...

Iron Ore Mine & Steel Mill in N

I'd love to, but I'm still figuring out my trackplan myself. I know the overall layout but the final details still need some work, especially the trackwork around the furnaces for the hot metal and slag. I will post something when I get the details ironed out, but it will no doubt change as the...

Iron Ore Mine & Steel Mill in N

I’m still slowly progressing on the ore dock. There’s plenty of painting and gluing to be done. I’ve got it to a stage now where I couldn’t help myself and just haphazardly tacked some main pieces together, enough just to lay some track on top of it and see how a train looks on it. Keep in...

Iron Ore Mine & Steel Mill in N

I got it on EBay last November. I couldn't believe it when I saw it myself. It's 1:200 so it's not quite n scale, but it's close enough for me. I did end up paying ALOT for it... I'd rather not say for fear my wife reads this forum. Let's just say it was the same price as my two blast furnaces...

Iron Ore Mine & Steel Mill in N

Alright, so it’s been like almost a year since I last placed a proper post. I have been a bit busy with work, and our little baby has left me with much less free time that I had anticipated. The project has actually taken a few steps backwards since my last post as well, because I have moved...

Yes, totally! Thanks very much. It will be a a while though before I get to working on them though, I will of course keep posting on my progress.

I'm actually moving in three weeks so I've been busy packing it all up. Also been busy with work, but after the move, I should have some real time to get back into it.

    way to go Walthers!

As a point of interest, my two blast furnaces that I ordered from Walthers arrived today. Total delivery time was seven weeks. This goes to show how the Christmas holidays can really slow down international deliveries. I'll stop hijacking this thread now.
