Modified Scenic Ridge Layout version 18...

Xtrkcad file Pasayten, Any chance you could post the Xtrkcad file for that? I like it with the reversing loop, and the expanded size. I'd be fine with the original plan, minus the Inglenook, if you have it that way. I'm looking at connecting via the interchange to an existing door layout...

    Drawer glides for controller shelf

Layout Yep, it's a Kato controller, and Kato turnout controllers. I may wind up powering the turnout controllers with a Bachmann power pack that I have (I already have the DC Converter if I decide to do that). I had seen so many people who had built the Carolina Central and had good things to...

    Drawer glides for controller shelf

Controller Shelf I thought I would take a minute and upload a pic or two of the finished shelf for my controller. I found full extension, locking glides at Lowe's for $12. A quick coat of black paint on the 1/2" ply, and she's mounted and ready. During the dry time, I cut and drilled the...

model railroader 2005 carolina central article

Scanning Articles Ron, That's between you and the wall, if you're ok doing that. I've also come around to the issues of "backing up" CDs and DVDs. I'm sure someone else will chime in on possible copyright issues as well, but I've said mine.... He has already ordered the issue, so the topic...

model railroader 2005 carolina central article

Mr 2005 Good to hear. The issue overall isn't bad (I purchased it for the same article). I'm in the process of building the Carolina Central as well. For what it's worth, I believe there are back issues available for several years back.

model railroader 2005 carolina central article

MR 2005 Carolina Central See my reply in the Nscale.net forums about scanning. The issue is still available for purchase through Kalmbach (which I just did). A wye is formed on the right side of the layout, connecting to a narrow shelf containing a staging yard. Connections are made to the...

    Drawer glides for controller shelf

Drawer Slides Steamhead, Thanks for the reply. What did you use for your shelf surface? What kind of clearance do you have between the shelf and the bottom of the layout?

    Drawer glides for controller shelf

Can anyone help with a source for some kind of drawer glides (I'm thinking computer keyboard style shelf) for me to mount my controller and switches? I'm doing a door layout, so I'll need to be able to affix to the bottom of the door (or to glued/screwed 1x4). Preferably a local source...

Has anyone built "N Scale Model Railroad That Grows"

Carolina Central George, The original Carolina Central was covered in this book: Amazon.com: N Scale Model Railroading: Getting Started in the Hobby (Model Railroader Books): Books: Martin J. McGuirk Model Railroader also covered it again in the December 2006 issue, where it was expanded to...

Has anyone built "N Scale Model Railroad That Grows"

Book I have the book, and was intrigued with the layout at first, especially with the possibility of doing it in stages. The problem I found was the 40" reach, unless you have access all the way around. I'm actually doing a variation of the Carolina Central layout on a 32" door, instead.

Kato Unitrack - Help with geometry!

Thanks! I've also discovered and have been using Drail, which works well. It's not free though. The demo lets you place up to 50 pieces on the table at once, which worked for my smallish layout.

Kato Unitrack - Help with geometry!

Updated Plan - 30" door OK, Here's the deal. I've been offered as many doors as I want from a co-worker for free. They're remodeling the upstairs (he's a modeler too, and he's keeping some of them, but they have over 10 doors to do something with). The widest are 30" doors. I've played with...

New Building Kits headed my Way!

Bump... Bump! No one's got pics to share of how the completed these kits or placed them in layouts? Come on guys!

New Building Kits headed my Way!

Hey all...several of you have helped me with the preliminary track layout for my 36"x80" door layout. I ordered the first stage of track last week. My oldest son and I will be starting after Christmas. In the meantime, I got anxious and threw some bids on buidling kits on Ebay. I wound up...

Kato Unitrack - Help with geometry!

Skewing I have played with skewing it on the table. Ultimately, I may lay it straighter, and try to break it up with landscaping. We'll see. I've actually changed the plan slightly again, connecting the bottom spur back in, giving me a full siding there as well. I've got to measure my...

    Some pics of my layout

Folding Legs First, Great job on the layout! I've got that book, and have just ordered track for my door layout, which I've gleaned ideas from the Carolina Central for. I can only hope that mine turns out looking half as nice, especially the landscaping and details. About the folding legs, I...

    Bachmann Coupler Conversions

Micro Trains Thanks! I assume the best bet is to pay a visit to my LHS, which is unfortunately, just over an hour away. I'll see what info I can find on the Micro Trains site.

    Bachmann Coupler Conversions

Kadee couplers I had checked out Kadee couplers, but those all look to be HO, not N scale. Any other ideas?

    Bachmann Coupler Conversions

OK, here's the deal...I got 2 Bachmann starter sets (I know, I know...) for a steal on Ebay, brand new. I'd like to convert the couplers on the sets, but I'm not sure what I need. I've got the Empire Builder set, which has a Northern 4-8-4 Loco and Tender. I've also got the Thunder Valley...
