The old 32 to 40 foot wood and steel reefers

Jacob Dold & Son's Reefer Again, I am sorry these aren't HO scale but it is a rendition of a wood reefer. This Jacob Dold & Son's reefer appears in St Thomas Ontario on the virtual railroad London and Port Stanley. It was made using Clover House decals as a reference. John

Very nice collection Frank, you have an impressive collection of reefers. I hope you have more to show as I'm enjoying viewing them. Apparently you don't have a space problem. I have to limit my railroading to virtual as I'm now in a Townhouse. John

The old 32 to 40 foot wood and steel reefers

Three hatches Thanks Wayne, your explaination sounds logical. Nice looking scratch build. Did you build from plans or photo's? One of my future projects is a "Bay of Quinte" truss rod box car but I have very little info except for a photo of a model. The screen shot shows a Sudbury reefer (...

Hatches Frank, That is different. Makes me wonder what the car looks like. Something I didn't notice before, looking closely at the Carstens reefer photo a few posts back, it looks like a huge decal was applied to the side of the car and no effort to hide the edges.

Gus I'll give you unique. I don't think I would want one parked next to my place. But the longer I look at the picture, I see what you mean. I may have to build an ugly car some day. ;-) John

Frank I think the C&M car is too long for pre Civil War and it doesn't have link and pin couplers. Clover House lists it as circa 1897. I made this car before I discovered Art Griffin and Clover House. You'll never guess where I found the Ute Warrior. Last night I was looking through my...

Frank Thanks Frank. I'll add some color back the this tread. The screen shot shows a Colorado & Midland reefer with the hatches in the middle. That's why I am concerned with the placement of hatches on the Carstens reefer I plan to make. I'll keep searching and may yet find the answer to my...

The old 32 to 40 foot wood and steel reefers

Eastman Heater Car Sorry to move away from the color of the billboard reefers but here is another car similar to the one in the previous post. This car is an earlier version appearing about 1900. It had a kerosene heater to keep produce and dairy products from freezing. The virtual model was...

The old 32 to 40 foot wood and steel reefers

Carstens Refrigerator Line Frank, thanks for the reply. Funny you mention Clover House 'cause that's were I got the idea, saw it in his catalog. I've purchased many HO scale rub off's from Clover House to make many of my cars but there is some information lacking to complete a car. What I was...

The old 32 to 40 foot wood and steel reefers

Carstens Refrigerator Line This group seems to have a huge interest in billboard reefers. I am looking for information on the Carstens 34 foot reefer, it had brown sides, an off set door on the side and lettering that said "White Snow Shortening". Can any one help me? John

The old 32 to 40 foot wood and steel reefers

Heinz I'm finding this thread to be very interesting and love seeing some billboard reefers I haven't yet seen. I'll stick my neck out again and post a picture of a Heinz reefer I built in "06. I feel this is more of a "show and tell" about billboard reefers than guage. John

36 foot truss rod reefer If I may, here is a screen shot of a reefer I finished recently. It is a virtual model made for Train Sim. It is shown here passing the London Ontario freight shed on the London & Port Stanley R.R. in 1927. John

    Virtual Tiger

I thought I'd have a go at another virtual model and this time I selected the free Tiger from http://chokipeta.jp and am pleased with the graphics a larger scale provides. I now have two tanks I can carry with me in my pocket on my thumb drive.:p John

    Kampfflieger Tetrarch

Tsm Robert, thanks for the suggestion. And I do need to improve my 3D modeling skills, no doubt about it. I tried 3D Max and couldn't get to first base with that program. You have to remember that the Tetrarch was made from a 1/72kit and used the textures that were included. I am sure that...

forever virtual Aaronlam, I don't know of a way to convert it back to a paper model. As I may have mentioned before it was built using the kit as reference. So I guess if you want a paper model you skip the building of a virtual model and get to cutting paper. I hope this answers your question...
