    Hellboy Big Baby

Well, don't tell anyone, but I keep purists, and political and religious zealots at arms length...further if possible.

    Hellboy Big Baby

http://www.dixiegunworks.com/default.php I've built guns from kits and it's totally fun. I still have a couple in the box waiting for my attention.

    Detailing with Lead Foil

Won't work with aluminum flashing. It's not malleable or ductile enough to work in this case. Even the thinnest AL will not work like lead. Actually, I am thinking of switching to tin foil for the fenders as it holds its shape a bit better.

    Detailing with Lead Foil

In conjunction with my Voroshilovets beta build, I want to demonstrate the technique for forming lead foil using a buck. 1. Lead is poisonous, work in a well-ventilated area and wash your hands before touching your face or handling anything. I purchased several pounds of lead sheet for a...

    CSS Fredricksburg

There is an easy way to form the Brookes or any other kind of gun with a rotary (Dremel) tool. Acquire a piece of brass rod the approximate diameter of the bore in whatever scale you are working and about 3/8" inch longer than the scale cannon. Using standard copy paper colored with a black...

    CSS Fredricksburg

Thanks, Elliot. And, yes, all my friends call me Chuck. When I finish the diorama, I will shoot it in gray tones. I must increase the contrast in subsequent photos because that is what we are accustomed to seeing with CW photos. I'm still an infant with Photoshop.

Finito Benito! For CT's sake I figured I better complete this build before I go on to something else. I still have the diorama base to do, but I can do that on my own time. Of all the things to happen, I dropped the model TWICE in as many weeks. The first time busted a davit which I rebuilt...

Union Pacific BIG BOY 4-8-8-4 1/25 Scale (Engine)

Bagasse I have been trying to find card stock made from bagasse in the United States. No luck. I can find paper plates and cups. Does your bagasse come as a flat sheet? What thickness? Do you have an internet source? Thank you for your trouble. Looking forward to the finish and...

    CSS Fredricksburg

Sun Shade Many CW photos show the ironclad crews protected by sunshades, so I decided to replicate this feature. I wrestled with a few materials such as facial tissue and japan tissue, and of course, card stock, none of which was entirely satisfactory. The problems were either too much grain...

    CSS Fredricksburg

If you go to a shop that specializes in railroad you will find it in accessories. I imagine you will also find it online. The problem is that the chain is scaled by the number of links per inch. You would need to do some calculation. OR, Chuck's Easy Way: Purchase a bunch of different...

Request: Advice on making boiler handrails and rivets

Nope, wasn't obvious. I rarely pay attention to which discussion board the thread is on. If the subject or question interests me, I jump in. Since it's basically 1/87 scale, those rivet techniques will work like a champ on your locomotives. I have a model steam engine that I've used almost...

Request: Advice on making boiler handrails and rivets

You didn't mention the scale. This technique works well in small scales but is quite time consuming. Stretch plastic sprue until it is quite thin. Cut 1/2-3/4 inch sections. While holding one end of each sprue section, place the other end near a heat source such as a butane lighter. The heat...

Request: Advice on making boiler handrails and rivets

Handrails: brass wire comes in a wide variety of guages and is easily bent. But, stainless steel wire will hold up much better. Get the SS wire from Small Parts Inc. It is shipped in a tube and is dead straight. Just make a jig for repetitive bends. Rivets: as many techniques are there...

Union Pacific BIG BOY 4-8-8-4 1/25 Scale (Engine)

I've been watching this build ever since Noah docked his boat; I think this has to be regarded as one of the most ambitious paper designs ever. I once thought the U-Boat was the schizzle, but this makes the U-Boat pale in comparison. Have you decided whether you will commission someone to...

IPMS Contest at Robins AFB, GA

I served as president of the Robert L Scott chapter of IPMS/USA. They are sponsoring a contest at the Museum of Aviation, adjacent to Robins AFB, GA. They are a very hospitable crew and I know we will be most welcome to compete and display our models. Entry is $10 and the day will be well...

    Star Wars Speeder Bike

Hah! Made ya look. It's just me riding the wind on my Speeder Bike. I purchased the bike this past weekend at my local Star Wars supply store. It's bitchin' fast, too. Many thanks to Oliver Bizer for allowing me to copy his idea.

One small step for man, one giant leap for Chuck

Here is the next Oliver Bizer special! His model comes with a moon base, but I wanted to put myself against a background that I copied from the Astronomy Picture of the Day site. Thanks a billion, Ollie! I am having a great laugh with these models. I think I will bring them to school so...
