    Digital Navy - USS Arizona - 1/100

Thanks for the many wonderful comments... @Noddy4000 I'm glad you enjoyed touring through the entire build thread. It was nearly 18 months of a tremendous journey. I learned a lot and I had lots of good advice from this modeling community along the way. In the end I came up with a family...

    Digital Navy - USS Arizona - 1/100

Thanks for the kind complements guys... @stickyfingers. Well, to tell the truth the kit is 1/250 so it's not too big. Don't be intimidated to jump into this one. I cheated and blew the kit up 250% to get 1/100. It was a tremendous effort and many assemblies took on a large amount of...

    AC-130 Spectre

Very nice work up. The Vulcan looks pretty good to me. With some experimenting I think you'll find something you like for those small barrels. All else looks incredible to me. I really like how clear and detailed the markings on the fuselage came out. Outstanding work!

Great job so far on this Spooky! I look forward to when you can get back into her again. This is a subject that's needed some attention for a long time.

Thanks guys. It was well worth the effort. I enjoy showing it to my guests. It's a show-stopper.

    Digital Navy - USS Arizona - 1/100

Thanks twinslet. I'm not in the never again camp. I'll do one again someday this size, but it will be a while. 17 months is a huge commitment. It almost got the best of me. It just occurred to me today that I never put my "finished" photos up on this site, but I did on another site...

Very nice Padre. Thanks for sharing the photos. The Phoenix model is amazing.

Conversion of JSC-HMS Lion 1:250 to 1:400 possible?

The answer is most definitely. I did the opposite on my 1/100 Arizona that is dispayed in this forum. It was designed to 1/250 so I increased the print out to 250% zoom. Everything fit like a glove, and the print clarity was surprisingly good at the upscale. I can only imagine going down...

    Digital Navy - USS Arizona - 1/100

Padre, I did quite a bit of web-seeking for that model. It must be in storage somewhere. I couldn't find a photo or even mere mention of it, and I changed my search parameters quite a bit. The memorial to the Arizona at the capitol building came up a lot. But no luck in searching for that...

    Digital Navy - USS Arizona - 1/100

I've been sidelined with other projects, and haven't put the icing on the cake so to speak. I've mounted the draped hoses and water valves for the deck mounted hoses. These were white metal castings that I painted. They're really a nice touch of detail to the build. I'm fiddling with...

Trust me Sebret, I watch it like a hawk. Right now I'm more worried about dust taking it's toll on her.

    Digital Navy - USS Arizona - 1/100

Yeah Birder. I've had thoughts of doing the same. Plexiglass over 72" gets tough to find and big $. I've been able to reduce the case to just a table top style case with solid top, back and plexi front and sides for around $450. That's as cheap as I can get it. I'm going to have to...

    Digital Navy - USS Arizona - 1/100

Thanks Mauiman. I've really just piddled with the ARIZONA lately, while I've been in some other projects. I'm mounting draped hoses right now and making preparations for the final photo shoot soon.

Very nice Birder. My Grandfather in-law builds ships of sail. Plank on frame. I'm envious of his skills. You look to have those same skills. I don't know how you manage those deadeyes. Very figity stuff. Looking very good so far!

More Details I finally received the last of my details for the Arizona. More rafts, this time ovals and draped hoses. I've painted and mounted my rafts. Had some flash to clean up on those, but they turned out well. I'm painting and hanging the draped hoses right now. Once these are...

    Digital Navy - USS Arizona - 1/100

Thanks jagolden... I never thought of that. I had a commercial printer do these parts for me, so I'm not sure what settings they used. I think your theory holds some water though. Thanks for the immense complement. My biggest challenge now is to build a clear case/table for it. That's...

    Digital Navy - USS Arizona - 1/100

Thanks for the complement. It's not pink, but there is a hue that has some red in the grey (funny as that may sound). I think the pixels of the color were exaggerated on the upscale, and this grey has some tonal changes from what it would look like at a smaller scale. The pictures taken...

    Digital Navy - USS Arizona - 1/100

It's actually a light grey. The 1/100 upscale exaggerated the tone of the color a bit when printed. The structure above the tops of the funnel were painted a light grey at the time due to US Navy cammo measures. It reduced visibility of the upper structures above the horizon line.

ltla9000311, that was a very moving and appreciated statement. I certainly didn't set out for such a goal, but I find myself staring at her when I'm in my office. My son is 4 right now, but I hope as he grows up he'll ask questions and I can share my knowledge of history with him. In fact...

Sailors on Watch Sailors on watch. I had thought six would be a good number, but they look lonely. I spread them out to various positions to give a good feel of scale for the overall model. Even for a relatively small battleship, the Arizona was huge. Now I sit and wait...
