WaldenModels Steam Yacht Livadia now available

Not that this lot will care too much, but I've now completed the GERMAN version of the kit. The website, alas, is English only for now. It should be fairly simple to navigate though. Please let me know if you have any questions. BTW - it's not apparent from my website, but I also accept...

    Finished VATERLAND pics

Very nice! - but don't you have the wrong ensign on it? I seem to recall the Vaterland came to the US after WWI, so she wouldn't have been flying the black-red-gold, but rather black-white-red, no? Cheers, Oliver

Imperial Russian Steam Yacht "Livadia" from Walden Models

@Dave: No, I don't know the price yet. All I can say is that it certainly won't be the scale equivalent of the cost of the original :D @Gil: the Livadia had three "King-size" triple-expansion engines and developed just over 12,000 hp (together). Top speed remained undetermined. At her...

Yes, on my website www.waldenmodels.com. It'll take me about another month to put the kit together. Cheers, Oliver

Imperial Russian Steam Yacht "Livadia" from Walden Models

Oh, don't say that! The difficulty level isn't outrageous, and the parts count is going to be fairly low. The runabout was probably the hardest bit on the whole ship, so if you've done that, the rest of the ship will be a piece of cake. Of course, I do recommend tweezers, sufficient lighting...

Imperial Russian Steam Yacht "Livadia" from Walden Models

@ Paperbeam - it's 1:250. The kit is detailed enough to handle scaling up, though. I expect it'll be good for at least 1:200, if not larger. Cheers, Oliver

Imperial Russian Steam Yacht "Livadia" from Walden Models

Guys, this is my design of the 1881 Russian Imperial Steam Yacht "Livadia", built on the "Turbot" design of Vice-Admiral Popov. Some of you may already by familiar with the model from my thread in our sister forum. Scale is 1:250. The model is very detailed and can easily be scaled up. There...

    A freebie from Walden Models

@Missy - you can even build it at 1:1 ;) Seriously, I think you could build it well at that scale without suffering a loss in fit. I will want to see a picture when it's done! Cheers, Oliver

Looking to do the HMS Surprise

Incidentally, but not entirely OT - I just recently found out that the U.S. Navy, too, had some bad-a*s sailing ships. After 1812 Congress funded nine ships of at least 74 guns. Some of these were actually built, including the huge 120-gun Pennsylvania. I have hull plans for the "North...

@ Eric - it might be that you have an older version of Adobe Acrobat? When I created the file, I made it compatible with version 4 and up. I would try downloading the newest version (I think they're up to 8 now) and try, try again. Let me know how you make out! Cheers, Oliver

Looking to do the HMS Surprise

Yes - I remember seeing the Shipyard anouncement myself. At a later point, it was supposed to be a set of plans for a 28-gun frigate "Surpize". Now there's nothing. Patrick O'Brian left notes about the ships after which he modelled Jack Aubrey's commands. Check this out...
