    Digital Navy - USS Arizona - 1/100

It looks fantastic, but let me warn you: All of the directions say to start the hull plating in the middle and work out to the ends. I found that to be exactly the wrong thing to do. hamr Start at both ends and work towards the middle. That way if there is any discrepancy it can be made up in...

    Hull and Deck framing

Stick and tissue? I thought I was the only one who still did that! I have a drawerful of balsa in my basement shop. Why didn't I ever consider using it on model ships? Maybe it's because I started my ship-modelling career making scratch-built wooden sailboats and all of the mags said "don't...

    USS Pennsylvania

I looked at the mess again last night and can't decide if I should just "settle" for what I've done and learn from my mistake, or do it "right" and completely re-plate the hull. I brought home some more 2mm chipboard from work yesterday in case I go the gas and matches route and start over. I...

    USS Pennsylvania

Thanks for the words of support, guys. I looked at it again this morning. The paper has dried out more and shrunk a little, so it doesn't look as bad as I thought at first. There may be something I can do that doesn't involve gasoline and matches.

    USS Tarawa LHA1 1/200

Beautiful ship. Barry! I am very envious of your gorgeous hull! I bet all the guys say that, though. sign1 Seriously, you have given me some great ideas for my own project. Thanks for sharing this with us.

    USS Pennsylvania

Over the weekend I attempted to finish the bottom of the hull. I started by installing the propeller shaft supports and the rudder, which I was very happy with. Then I used some spackle on some of the gaps. I was a little less happy about the way that turned out. I proceeded...

S.M.S. Emden, HMV, rescaled 1:200, self designed hull

In this context, "mindnumbing" means "difficult to comprehend". How you are able to achieve such perfection is unimaginable. Perhaps mind-boggling would be better...And I agree!

    USS Pennsylvania

After a long summer break of vacations, triathlons, and houseguests I am able once more to sit down in the evening and work on the Pennsylvania again. Here are a couple of shots of the old girl after I finished the hull plating, but before sanding and painting. After leaving it sit for a...

Coming to GreMir Models in 2007 (hopefully.....)

I agree about the Kirishima. My wife's uncle was stationed aboard the USS Washington during the second battle of Savo Island at Guadalcanal when they sunk the Kirishima

On closer inspection, I see the longitudinal seams. Do you try to overlap the rows? Do you "spile" like a wooden ship? I'm also trying to understand why you cover the kit pieces, which run up and down with ones that run fore and aft. Maybe I can't see it because my own hulls are so badly...

    Fuso 1:430

Stunning ship! Your hull is smooth and flawless, your details are beautiful and clean. How do you get those tiny little hulls together without turning it into a gluey mess? Do you use water-based glue?

    HMS Repulse From GreMir

Great looking work! I find building the hull is a major hurdle. I can't tell you how many unfinished hulls I have laying around the shop! I'm looking forward to seeing some of your excellent detail work.

    Digital Navy - USS Arizona - 1/100

Once again, it has been a while since I visited this site. WOW! Are you nuts? Good looking start- I'll be watching, since I'm still trying to convert the DN AZ into the USS PA. And you may as well confess...You haven't really explained what you are doing to your wife, have you?

    Zuikaku 1:200 GPM (finished)

I have been away from the forum for a little while, and when I finally checked in, I find this masterpiece staring at me. You solved the hull problem I've been dealing with on my Pennsylvania. I thought about filling in between the bulkheads with cardstock, and now I sincerely wish I had...
