    STS-1 in 1/288th

Like I said, noted. I'm not sure comparing one member's way of contributing to another's way is constructive. Nor is it constructive to indirectly accuse a member of setting himself above others. It certainly gives me pause. There's no technique I use that isn't in Cardmodeling 101 and if...

    STS-1 in 1/288th

Thanks. The Saturn V is Bruno VanHecke's Saturn V in 1/300. I resized it to 1/288th, corrected the markings and added scratchbuilt detail. And I added insulation batting to the F-1s, since every F-1 that ever flew had the batting.

    STS-1 in 1/288th

Here is my build of Alfonso X. Moreno’s model of STS-1. Alfonso's model comes in 1/144th scale, but I resized it to 1/288th. (My display space area is limited....) Here are the details: External Tank The ET body was built stock, but I added plumbing, wiring, cable trays and scratchbuilt the...

    Rocinante build No. 3

It's very well done. Great story lines. Riveting characters. And, let's be honest.... The ships are cool as heck. And they obey the laws of physics, sometimes to comedic effect.

Vulcan "Sled" Shuttle: Star Trek The Motion Picture

You're getting there. As for the joint in question, it underscores the value of test fitting and trimming parts (in this case, the hole for the cylindrical tunnel) until there's a decent fit. Carpentry may have, "Measure twice, cut once," but cardmodeling has, "Test-fit twice (or three or four...

    Rocinante build No. 3

Personally, I'd like to see the Arboghast or the UN drop ship.

    Rocinante build No. 3

Just finished season 2 of "The Expanse" (the season finale has a cool cameo by Adam Savage...) and so here is my third build of Michael Grosberg's fine design of the Rocinante. For this build, I shrunk the model from 1/100th scale to 1/144th. The model builds into a fine replica off the page...

    Tachi from "The Expanse"

Fashioned a simple stand out of black cardstock (rolled into a truncated cone and glued) and black foam-core board:

    Tachi from "The Expanse"

I've made it through season 1. It's been very good so far. And their fidelity to the laws of physics appears pretty strong. It makes the ships interesting. For example, on the Tachi/Rocinante (and other ships) the decks are oriented perpendicular to the axis of thrust, as opposed to parallel to...

    Tachi from "The Expanse"

Thanks for the kind words. I scratchbuilt the Point Defense Cannons on my previous build, so there were no templates, per se. I just fashioned and added parts until I had a passable representation of a PDC. Maybe someone with CAD skills could design one (it would also require a redesign of their...

    Tachi from "The Expanse"

You could just say, "Here's the link..." instead of making it sound like I failed to live up to some unspoken "obligation" to provide the link.

    Tachi from "The Expanse"

There are very few models I want to build more than once, but Michael Grosberg's excellent Rocinante/Tachi is one of them. It's the main ship from the sci-fi show "The Expanse." (And, sorry, but no build thread from me on this one.) A quick bit of history for those unfamiliar with the show or...

2001 ASO. Uhu02's EVA Pod by DanBKing

Looks great; the detail adds a lot. You should look into a Japanese book punch, if you don't have one already.

    Rocinante build....

The credit goes to the model's designer, Michael Grosberg. His parts include a rigid internal framework that everything fits around. I've actually given some thought to building the model again, in 1/144th or 1/200th scale, but I might wait and see if Michael or anybody else does a repaint of...

    Rocinante build....

I saw renderings of the gas tanks online. Lots of spindly trusswork involved. I figured the PDCs were complex enough....

    Rocinante build....

Not that I've seen. Would love to see a model of the ill-fated Canterbury.

    Rocinante build....

Sadly, I did not take photos as I built. I pretty much followed Michael's instructions, and I figure if I'm just following the instructions and not doing anything extraordinary, there's little need to snap photos along the way.

    Rocinante build....

Here’s my build of Michael Grosberg’s excellent Rocinante, the ship from the TV series “The Expanse.” I’ve just started watching the show, but I enjoy how they stick (pretty much) to the laws of physics. Michael’s design is very good despite the ship’s complex shapes. The model, which is...
