    RSCs and RSDs?

Utah Railway retired their RSD-4/5s in 1982. So far, that is the only confirmed date I found. Utah Railway Diesel Locomotive Roster Same page shows an RSD-5 as owned and operated by Willamette & Pacific in 1994. I can't find an engine roster, but you can see a friendly Alco face as engine...

    RSCs and RSDs?

"What was the last low-hood 6-axle Alco?" Do you mean the last one to roll off the assembly line? Last one to operate? Last one in use by a Class I road? It is a bit of an ambiguous question.

    Pink foam

I wouldn't even say it is a matter of the frost line. It is a matter of basements. There aren't any... Finding a basement in Florida is like having a 90 F degree day at the arctic circle. And the water table isn't too close to the surface.... it IS the surface. As for Extruded foam in...

Fifer stocks the full line of UniTrack. He is probably a good bet.

    RSCs and RSDs?

Kennecot Copper had the last RSD-4, to the best of my knowledge. (donated to a museum as the only surviving RSD-4) Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad still operates a RSD-5. I don't know about the RSC units.

Living in a life size caboose

We actually had a discussion about the actual (estimated) costs of relocating some cabeese from Pennsylvania to Maryland, for personal use, about 6 weeks ago. Just before Christmas, 4-5 previously un-advertised cabeese popped up on eBay with starting bids at $7500 and $10000. Pricing depended...

Old Con-Cor (Kato) n scale Alco PA-1 part

I may have one motor left. I'll check once the household is awake. I believe I removed it due to crumbling magnets, but I am not 100% positive. I feed off the 'broken' and "don't run too good" boxes at the LHSs. So, I go through a lot of parts.

Old Con-Cor (Kato) n scale Alco PA-1 part

Does any part of the model or original box say "Sekisui" on it? I am assuming this is a 'Con-Cor by Kato' PA, but just wanted to verify. If it is - Which gear do you need? The cup gear that engages the motor? One of the tower gears? One of the idler gears in the trucks? Which ever it is...

    Seeking Exhibitionists!

Other than the O guys, I don't see many of us narrow-gaugers around here. I can't really claim myself, either. (Nn3) Most of my efforts have been focused on Kato 11-105/6/7 chassis, or B-mann 4-4-0s. Only the 4-4-0 and another 11-105 equipped tender made it farther than the 'tinker' or...

    Why So Many Diesels?

I think it has to do with "generation saturation" (hehe, I coined a term), as well as DCC. (DCC in N and Z scale, that is) As for "Generation Saturation"(C), it's true that a lot of young modellers really have no idea what it took to run a steamer, or the engineering feats accomplished to do...

    Atlas Snap Switches

I don't have any recent (last was 10+ years ago) experience with the HO snap switches. I do have very recent experience with the N scale custom line and snap switches, though. The snap switches are very iffy, and often require more work than they're worth, for reliable operation. (or any...

    when to solder?

I didn't see it mentioned by anyone else... Make sure to leave some expansion gaps in your rails, in a few places on the layout. If you don't, the rails will literally 'pop' right out of the ties (with flex or sectional track). And if the rails don't come out, sometimes the track will lift...

I'm not a big fan of modelling airports. It seems like some decent stuff, but I'm not really interested in it.

    spectrum steamers DCC ready

If you do go with the DZ-123.... don't. The DZ-125 should be shipping to retailers soon. It is the DZ-123's replacement, and has a few improvements. The best improvement.... it's even smaller now.

Gauge Fantasy League "Notes" Thread :) :)

Congrats guys. You both had great seasons. Maybe next year, we can do it somewhere other than Fox. The frustration of working with their clunky, overloaded, incomplete, buggy site overshadowed the fun of the game.

    9V DC power supplies putting out 13 - 16Volts?

Most power supplies have a min-max rating on them. I have been working with mA power supplies lately. They usually read something like: "5VDC 200mA~500mA." I like to test them at both settings. Usually I use a resistor and series of LEDs, along with the multimeter. The LEDs are just for fun, and...

    "T" scale

Same as most everyone else, I haven't gotten my hands on any T gauge yet. I am hopeful, though. Overall, the T scale effort seems to have been jump started pretty well. The company did a great job getting details, trains, track, and structures on the market at the same time. Right now the...
