    model building table

I built this little work table today so I can work on houses, trees and such without being down in the mancave (basement). It holds glue, scissors, my micrometer, triangles, rulers, knives, pencils, and even has a little perch for the glue gun, the work surface doubles as a cutting board. Its...

    Concrete Bridge Piers and Abutments

good point, it didnt occur to me it would be hard to find insulation board in texas.....But yeah, it ends up looking pretty good not too porus, its all in the way you cut it, try and hack it up with a knife and you may not get good results (at least I dont) I draw on the design, and then cut...

    Concrete Bridge Piers and Abutments

I agree with carving them out of foam, it takes very little work or skill (lucky for me) to make it look like half decent concrete

what do non railroaders think of your layout?

Maybe its just my weird family and friends but everyone I show my railroad to that isnt into model railroading seems to be appalled that I would spend the kind of time I do on something like this........today an old friend of mine I hadnt seen in many years stopped by for a visit. I was in the...

awesome stuff! I was tempted being a fan of zombie movies to do a scene of little half decomposed figures rising from the graves but decided against it....I do want to do something funny there with figures eventually though

    benchwork help

are you just trying to build benchwork with the gradual incline you described? why not build the benchwork flat, and use foam the create the incline? if you want to do it in wood, take a couple 1x6's turn them up on edge and jigsaw the incline out of them then wrap the top in something that...

ever see this on a layout?

yeah, that place was called hobby stop west as I remember, but it is gone, the only other one is farther down monroe, called riders hobbies, but the train section there is pretty sad, not much better than hobby lobby, and more expensive, they seemed to be much more geared towards RC stuff, they...

cool retaining wall Im working on....

duh......I have like 4 sheets of that lap siding too, and never even thought of that.......I took me a couple hours to do that wall, stick by stick, and I could have probably knocked it out in a half hour if I had used the siding....anyways roger heres the close up pic if it helps...the ballast...

cool retaining wall Im working on....

the wall is all made out of stained balsa....the incline was just foam..basically the foam is just skinned in balsa and rocks, and ballast....Ill take you a better pic so you can see it a little better

cool retaining wall Im working on....

its in n scale roger......the edge of the ballast on the lower track just about comes up to the the wall........there might be 1/2 inch of grass and weeds between them....

cool retaining wall Im working on....

I built this today just noodling around trying to figure out how I was gonna handle this incline. the edge was so close to the next set of tracks it didnt give me room to model out a very realistic hillside....so this is what I came up with, a reatining wall that leads up to the bridge over...

    inexpensive water???

OK I went the k.i.s.s. method on this....I just carved out my littlestream bed, painted the edges, and then filled it with watery plaster, that I put a texture on as it dried, then painted that, Ill highlight it with a few other colors, put a couple coats of gloss on it, and I think it will work...

    buildings in a staging yard?

I have alot of empty space in my staging yard, so I wanted to put some buildings there, but every pic I see of a staging yard has no buildings, just track, are there any kinds of structures I can use here that are realistic? sure seems like a big waste of real estate on my rather small layout if...
