I was watching Modern Marvels about bullet trains on the History Channel today and got a neat fact that in 1930 a steam train hit 136mph!! I never knew steam could get moving so fast! especially back then. Anyone know what the trian was called or details surrounding it? They didn't provide much...
Hi all after hunting around i found the name of the corrosion preventer, thanks Gary S.!!
It was in this thread: http://forum.zealot.com/t151759/
that the name of the stuff i was looking for was mentioned!! NO-OX!!!
Has anyone used this to "seal" their rails? If so .. any pointers/gotchya's...
Does anyone remember a thread about a HUUUGE layout in Hamburg Germany? I went looking for the thread because it had some great shots i wanted to show someone but i came up blank. Am I going nutz?
The name of the place is Modellbau Modelleisenbahn Hamburg i think.
I've got a figure 8 w/ a siding branching off it and i'm wondering how to wire the siding? I would think i would want the siding to be the same polarity as the track it diverges from, but what if i have a train in the reverse loop and on a siding at the same time? How would i deal w/ that...
Recently when i click "new posts" i've been getting more new posts from all the other forums i don't read. I'd like to limit (or create my own) new post search to only search w/in the gauge section of the site, any tips?
I have a couple different brands of switch machines but they all seem to send instructions that make the assumption me, the end user, has some clue as to what i'm doing.
:)
Could someone take a picture of their setup (or point me to a place on teh web w/ pictures) of a tenshodo, peco, or...
I was out in long island for a family event and the place we stayed was 2 feet from a trian station, actually the last train station on the island :). I got lucky and snapped off a couple shots of the loco and cars from abotu 20 to 30 feet away.
My two little railfans

I didn't calculate for roadbed :(. How else could i apply ballast to track that is on woodland's scenic risers? If it isn't possible, what do i do now?
I tried tapering the end of the foam roadbed heheh... it looked like i was hungry and decided it was a tasty snack. Tempted to try the same w/...
I am at the verge of installing dcc into my 4x8 and i'd like to use an autoreversing unit. At first i had settled on the mrc unit because it was small easy to install (based on reviews here and reading) and cheap <== important hehehe.
BUT now that i've done a litte more research and read a bit...
So i've decided to add some vertical action to the 4x8 thomas the tank engine layout i've been building for my kids :p .. well mostly for my kids anyway hehehe. I've used woodland scenic risers (4%) to get the height i need to get over the crossing the problem is what do i do in between the...
I recently went to chicago and i stumbled across an overhead walkway w/ a great view of a passenger train station. I managed to snap a couple of photo's. you can view full sized (they are HUUUUGE) at My beginner's attempts at railfanning :)
These photo's are pretty self explanatory i was most...
Spotted some amtrak locomotives, and a tie replacement machine. The tie replacement machine was amazing!! It actually lifts up the track as it works. I'll have to stop buy tmrw and get more detailed pix this is driving by at 45mph.
This is the beginning of the tie laying machine...
Came the other day :). I took two of them out of the box to look at them and lemme tell you, whoever said n scale doesn't have the same level of detail that ho does has never seen these engines in person!!! They are phenomnial!
Atlas Dash 8-40B's in amtrak bnsf and santa fe paint.
BUT my trains are safe :). I have to get a new sump pump .. it quit and shorted out tripped the efi outlet thank god 2 week wait for a new sump no hardware store in 20 miles has one :) .. but .. my trains are all safe!!!! yay!!
An interesting journey into information. <== no other way to explain it ;) i'd be interested in views and opinion. Edit: My links didn't show in blue trying the underline route/differnet font route
Hello all, i've been involved in this hobby now for a very short period of time and in that time...
I was wondering what the prevailing wisdom was on mixing the two in the same layout. From what i understand atlas has something called a transitional rail joiner thant takes from one height to the other.
Reason, i'm not so good w/ laying track yet, but i need larger radius curves to run my...
O.k. so i've been noticing a trend in my behavior. Everytime i see a train i think "what would that look like on my layout" :0. hehehe not only that but i've been noticing trains everywhere. It's almost like when you are going to buy a car and all of a sudden you notice that everyone else had...
I am looking for pointers on operating loco's on a connected figure 8 layout. The center sections are wired in independent blocks and connected to a selector.
