    DCC in a athearn locomotive

Only thing I would add is taking liquid electrical tape and covering the bottom of the chassis, as well as the bottom strip. That worked well in my SW1500 that I converted. Also, if you can solder a wire then use a regular decoder. Solder the grey and orange wire to the motor leads, remove...

need trrack plan for a 2x14

With 2 1/2 feet wide space, you could have a 6 foot hidden staging yard, with a 3 track interchange yard in front of that. There's a Yahoo group called "Small Layout Design." They have some great ideas for layouts. With 14 feet long, you can lengthen almost any of their plans. Tell me what...

    Your worst layout/Train running mistakes

I guess I have to answer this question twice. My worse "modeling disaster" happened while working on "distressing" the canopy of a B-24 Liberator airplane model. I was drilling bullet holes in the windscreen when the brand new, surgically sharp Xacto blade slipped and quickly slid into the side...

    The Weathered Car Gallery

Here is an old N-scale locomotive that I weathered. The Chicago & Northwestern weren't as bad about cleaning equipment as the SP, but they might have been close. Technique used was yellow, green, and black pastel chalks applied with Q-tip, brush, and finger. Messed around with it until it...

    Quality of turnouts

I use nothing but Atlas CustomLine turnouts. With DCC, I have no problems operationally. Even with short wheelbase locomotives, I dont have any troubles. I use a small spring to hold the points so I can throw the turnouts manually.

Its FRIDAY 4-14-06, Weekend Modeling Plans!

This weekend is one of the busiest of the year for me. We have 2 services on Thursday, 2 on Friday, and then 7 am and 10 am on Sunday. Saturday is spent at church setting up for the Easter breakfast, then coming home and cleaning house for Sunday, when we will be entertaining (after a nap of...

Its FRIDAY 3-31-06, Weekend Modeling Plans!

This weekend, I hope to get more work done on the lumber yard buildings. I am using Walther's Clayton County buildings. I also hope to work on a small photo diorama. This will be something I can haul outside and use for photography of rolling stock and locomotives.

    Track laying Fun!!!!!

Not sure what I am going to do. I am considering Camera Ready Artwork with Rail Graphics, but I don't know. I really liked his work, as well as his price.

    Track laying Fun!!!!!

The turnouts will be thrown manually, using a v-shaped spring underneath the ties. This holds the points against the stock rails without using a ground throw or switch machine. For uncoupling, I will be using the bamboo skewer. Control is DCC, using a Digitrax Zephyr and UT1 throttle.

    Track laying Fun!!!!!

Well, I got downstairs both last night and this morning. I have gotten almost all the track laid on my 10 x 8 shelf-style layout. (HO scale) Here's a link to the tracklaying web page. http://www.pegnsean.net/~revnjeff/ConcordInd%20Pk.html Comments are welcome. I admit to not taking time to...

    Concord Industrial Park - HO

Kurt, Love the track plan. Looks like it has some great possibilities. By the way, I plan to use the CNW MP15DC put out by Atlas to switch my layout. (Or at least one of the locomotives). Jeff

    Concord Industrial Park - HO

Thanks for all the wonderful feedback. I have taken some of your suggestions and made some changes. Let me know what you think. By the way, the tracks do look close together, but they are on about 2" centers. It should be fine. I suspect the compression of the plan makes them look closer...

    Freight management software

There is a Car Card and Waybill Generator program that is available as freeware....sort of. You need to have MS Access 97 or 2000 for the database to work. It allows you to input your cars, locomotives, and then make waybills. The program prints them up nicely. I did try ShipIt! from Albion...
