    Scale power and weight

Using the equation X=1/2at*t where X is the distance and the acceleration due to gravity is 9.8 meters/second squared. The time is therefore the square root of (2*X/9.8). Assuming an ideal system with no air drag. The height of a 170 ft trestle is 51.8 meters and .59 meters respectivly in HO...

What's the Best Way to Remove a Bad Paint Job?

Removing paint Dunking in thinner is a great way to get a pile of mush back out. there are a couple of ways to remove old paint, you can use Easy-off oven cleaner, just spray it on and wait 10-15 minutes and scrub the old layers of paint off (make sure you wear rubber gloves or you skin...

switch actuation With the code 55 switches, I used a small douple throw, single pole switch to actuate my switches that are close to the table front, it routes power to the frog and after drilling a hole in the top and putting a wire out, they make a reasonable switch stand. for the remote...

Gear replacement It looks as if I'll have to go the NWSL route, since kato was unable to help. I just recieved a second BR 86 in the mail from a ebay auction, thought about molding and casting another gear from the good one out of the new loco. I'll be giving NWSL a call on monday, just hate...

    Sp Ac-12

Clerk, feel free to ask, no attitude intended in previous post. Apparently my joking around was taken the wrong way. OHMYGOSH, it happened again on this same thread. I should have done a better job of explaining my disinterest in Sant Cruz (live nearby) and my interest in...

    Sp Ac-12

ac-12 This spiraled out of control a bit. Went to Yosemite for the weekend and wow. If you must know, the AC-12 was around 900. As for asking someone the price, it should be done in a manner which invokes interest, not jest (and I took Meiriongwril's writing as such). Coaster, as far as...

    Sp Ac-12

Ac-12 Why is it that anytime there is a post on one of these forums regarding a brass locomotive (N scale AC-12 gets alot of hits) there is always the question of "how much did it cost"? Who cares, one persons budget is different from another and what is spent on a layout is up to the...

    Sp Ac-12

Wow, Just recieved my "new" key AC-12. Opted to wait for a Japan version to surface vice the Korean and all I can say is wow. This thing runs better than my LL mallet. If your in the market for an SP cab forward, I would wait and buy the Japanese version, doesn't even require the tender to...

    Bmann tender electrical pickup conversion

Has anyone out there modified a Bachmann vanderbilt tender (like the ones that come w/ the 4-8-4) for electrical pick-up. I'd like to use one on my Bmann Light mountain. The MP vandy tender is too small, so this is about it other than a Con cor. Unfortunatly, the 4-8-2 needs the electrical...

What can i use to mobel rebar

re-bar You can pick up various grades of steel leader at a fishing supply store, I've used this for various model railroading projects. A great source of real thin wire is from speaker wire, just remove the insulation and you have very fine wires to work with, and a roll is pretty cheap.

Looking for a good locomotive mechanic, I have a Kato BR 86 that I've kitbashed for my logging layout, the thing doesn't run worth a darn, any tips. I've lubed it, cleaned wheels, put on metal wipers, with no luck. It just stutters about the track. Secondly, anyone ever re-motered a bachman...
