    Ordering finished models online?

Hi DELTA: Thats one of those urban legands that's been around since I was a kid (a lot of years) but in my memory it was Japan. Can't verify any truth to it; however.

    Hello

Hello and welcome. Don't worry about your english. I've been speaking the American version for 73 years and haven't figured it out.

    Panic on Main St.

Reminds me of the guy who had his garden railroad loco derailed by a frog.

    copper smelter

Try Googling Anaconda Copper Co. They had a huge operation in Anaconda, MT in the 1900-1960 period. All that remains is the smokestack and lots of polluted ground. As an aside, there is a tourist railroad that operates between Anaconda and Butte during the summer. (a plug for Montana tourism)

It's a little too quiet in here.

I've been pretty inactive here and on "the other site". the past three weeks. Haven't done much with the On30 log cars that are dis-assembled on the dining room table. It's too cold at the museum layout to get involved there. Must be the winter doldrums.

    A Time to Spend

Yep, I remember those 110 dollar brass Shays of 35 years ago. Of course I was raising a family at the time and couldn't afford many of the 35 dollar plastic or cast loco's either. Oh well, such is life.

    The log dump

Great scene Shamus but a bit too compressed for the safety of those guys on the logs. When that other end of the big log drops they will be flying through the air.

    110 guage?

Likewise never heard of the term. People who are selling a relatives MR equipment sometimes get confused as to scale and gauge, as well as value. Might be worth taking a look at.

USRA Locos and Related Locomotive Stuff

PJB: Thanks for the info. From my years in the MR hobby and through an interest in railroad history, I've long known the basics of the USRA but this is the first I've heard of any background publications. Jim K.

Help with 23V transformers from Roco?

A couple of comments. It would probably cost more to wire a special 220 volt circuit than the cost of a new 110 volt power supply. I don't know about the quality of power supplies that come with european train sets but if they are like some here in the US, they are marginal output. Also, ask...

    Movin' on...

I'll echo the comments of the other members. You will be missed in your capacity of moderator. It would much worse to have you leave "The Gauge" completely. As you noted, there have not been many situations develop that require moderating. Keep the photo's and stories coming as time allows...

Logging East Tennessee on the C&S RR

I always like to see logging related photo's. We don't get a whole lot of them. Great work. Keep them coming.

    Stuck again

As an added thought, do small areas' at a time. Maybe a coat of flat, earth color latex paint would be desireable before adding ground cover. To cut down costs, you might find some suitable "real dirt" and clean, sift and dry it to be used where appropriate. I'm assuming that you have white...

    Stuck again

Here's are a couple of comments that may give you some ideas. Have you ever seen all green in an industrial area? If you have access to a trackage area such as the one you have modeled, take some notes on the type of materials on the ground. You may find a variety of colors from black to...

    Chessie getting old

I always thought that I'd like to have a set of the original dining car dinnerware with her picture on it. Geeze, now that I think of it, thats only one year older than me.

A Problem That is Becoming Magnified

I just had cataract surgery last week so it's a bit premature for me to offer any advice. When I used to do modeling and tooling work for a living, I used a combination of magnifiers depending on what I was working on. Painting figures usually requires the ability to have hands free, so maybe...

Where do you get your Logging Stuff?

For logs, dead trees and brush, I use mother natures hobby supply. The logs come from the lake shore, they collect on the beach and are pre weathered. Very reasonable price. Sage brush area's here in MT and Eastern WA state provide great stuff for tree trunks and dead tree's. Just watch out...
