    Wiring Tortoise switch machines

I have an old Lionel transformer that is also running through a rectifier to the switches. The nice thing about it is I can lower the voltage on the transformer so the switch machines can pretty much run at any speed I want.

    Metal water tower roof

As you mentioned it has a flat sheen to it which really is what can add to a "plastic look." You could do a light airbrush of gloss or semi-gloss to add a little more sheen. Since you have already weathered it you may just want to dry-brush with a metalic paint like gun-metal or steel. Don't...

    12 volt motor recommendations

I have four older scratchbuilt locos that have open frame motors. I am thinking about upgrading them as I prepare the railroad to change to DCC. I model O scale two rail and would like to upgrade the motors to something more efficient. I'm planning to use can motors so if there is a...

Looking for help from you New York Central guys

I'll take a look at the modelflex. I did find scalecoat offers two NYC grays so I'll give those a try as well. I've never liked mixing my own paint because if I decide to paint a second loco later I wont get the same shade.

    Functioning hump yards.

I'm interested in adding a functioning hump yard to my O scale layout. I've read a couple posts on the net about an HO layout that had one using compressed air to control the descent of the cars. I'm curious if any of you may know of sites with more info or have one yourself.

Looking for help from you New York Central guys

Thanks for the response. I guess the problem I'm having is selecting the right shade of gray. Most of you guys are probably thinking "just paint it gray darn it." However, I normally model New Haven and as most of you guys may know the colors out there especially 401 green and warm orange are...

Looking for help from you New York Central guys

I'm looking for a good color match for New York Central Diesel F units with the lightning bolt scheme. I have the decals taken care of but still trying to determine the best match for the overall gray. Any recomendations would be great. Thanks

    NCE DCC wireless any thoughts?

I'm sure you're right as you have done it. I only know what I've read in the NCE manual. PH-5 manual page 17, and PH-10 manual page 12. It simply says that other decoder manufacturers may not support "programing on the main."

    Using DCC with multiple locos

I'm pretty new to DCC and still comparing systems and have a question regarding multiple Locos. If I couple two or three locomotives together to pull a train with regular DC this isn't a problem. How do you do this with DCC? Can you control multiple engines with one controller in this...

    NCE DCC wireless any thoughts?

Thanks for the response guys I'm thinking we will probably end up going with the NCE system primarily for what looks like the best radio control system out there. After doing a little more reading I found that the only way to avoid using a program track is if you use NCE decoders. Any other...

    Signs painted on walls

Looks great but... Why print it on regular paper? Why not weather the sign and then print it onto decal paper. You wouldn't need to copy the building texture you could simply apply it to the building as a decal. When you print it on paper and apply it to the building doesn't the 3-D look...

    NCE DCC wireless any thoughts?

Hi guys, I'm new to the forums here and had a couple questions about DCC. I model O scale and have a 100'x50' layout that has been running "power block style" for ever and we have been thinking about going the DCC route. I was hoping for some feedback as far as installation, ease of use, etc...
