oh yeah, the DHD is proving much more difficult to sculpt. I'm going to have to take my dremel to it and do some freehand carving.:(

Actually yeah, I built the gate to scale so the train is too big to go through. I plan on mounting it to the side of a hill which would be next to a park/station. The reason it will be mounted into the hillside is to hide the wires and lights that should make it look operational. I am using a...

Yeah, I probably will. I still have clay and a couple LEDs left over. I'm also thinking about scattering some ruins (probably of Greek or Roman design) about the scene. Probably just some cracked or fallen pillars to give the "ancient" feel. All this stuff will be in the park area of my layout.

I thought about using some type of cookie cutter, the problem is that to make it to scale I need very specific radii (I don't happen to have the numbers with me). What I did was used a compas to get circles then a fine blade exacto knife to cut throught the clay. A problem with working with...

Hi all, I'm working on my first layout and plan on adding one object from my favorite scifi shows, Stargate SG-1. I am attempting to build an HO scale model of a stargate. Unfortunatly my working knowledge (or lack thereof) of wormhole physics prevents me from making it a fully functional...

    modern looking building / structures

Hi everyone, The layout I'm planning isn't large, but I would like some modern looking HO scale buildings 5 to 20 stories tall (1980's to present) for the downtown area (I am running the Acela with three passenger cars only). I'm having difficulty locating prebuilt structures. Am I going to...

    remote switch power issue

Hi Russ, Yeah, I think that's what happened. The track has a "tear drop" shape to allow the engine to change heading on the mainline. I realized last night that this would create a short (regardless of the position of the switch). You mentioned insulating the track to prevent the short, is...

    remote switch power issue

Hi everyone, I'm pretty new (2 weeks) and already having power issues. I have a simple oval track that came with my new set to which I added more track to create something besides an oval. The problem is that when I have one or both Atlas remote switches hooked up (connected to the track...

    real water feature

Sure shaygetz, if it's not too much of a problem. I'll probably just use it for ideas as I am planning on a more modern, urban setting for my layout (assuming I can find any good modern building models). Thanks

    real water feature

I am planning on using HO, so yes, waterfalls probably would not scale realistically. perhaps just a pond with a slow moving river. I have a fountain that I never use, i never thought of scavanging it for parts for a pump. And yes, I would also hate to have an engine derail into the water, I...
