    Nn3 track

Not sure, as on the opposite average Z track (Micro-Trains track excepted) has a too large tie spacing. So I think Peco or Marklin Z brand may be used as a Nn3 track without any problem. Dominique

    z scale newbie

In effect, it depends on what your goal is: myself I'm building a Z scale layout in a space where I could build an N scale empire or an honest HO layout because two of my purposes are to have only broad curves (mine are 20"/50cm minimum radius), and running 80-car trains. One of the advantages...

    Z scale Micro-Trains turnouts

Hi all, and happy new year. Do someone know here if the soon to be released Z scale MTL turnouts are power routing or insulated frog? Thanks for any input. Dominique

I'm thinking about buying either N scale or Z scale trains

Not necessarly. Myself, as a Z-scaler, I'm thousands light-years from suitcase/briefcase/coffee-table layouts, as I'm working on a 6.50 meter x 4 meter layout that will represent chosen parts of the Tehachapi Pass. My goal when chosing Z scale? Having close to prototype broad curves (minimum...

    N/Z on same layout

Very interresting idea! Myself as a Z-scaler, I also recommand Micro-Trains stuff that is to my eyes more prototypical (and cheaper) than Marklin's. About vehicles, Micronart (http://www.micronart.com) releases very interresting vehicles, including a very nice semi-trailer truck. Dominique

    Z gauge beginner...

Hi, myself I lay my Z scale track with white glue. On main line I lay a cork roadbed, itself with white glue, then I lay the track on it, still with white glue. And white glues works that well when I lay my yard track directly on the benchwork. Hope this helps, Dominique

    My Z-Scale SD45

Very nice work SmolderZ. But aren't you affraid there is insufficiant clearance between your doublestack car and your snowshed's roof? What happens if ever your track work bends or gets tilted with a change in heat or humidity? Myself I'm very far of beeing at this stage as I'm just beginning...

Yeah my friend, I don't extactly know, as I've been collecting stuff for 8 years now, and as I'm just beginning to build my main layout, but it should be 500 cars or so. That means about a little more than 6 80-car trains. Dominique

Sorry SmolderZ, the next time I'll be more careful when reading..... My wife is the most awesome woman I've ever known, as she encourages me with modelrailroading and other leisure activities; so she totally agrees with my house's main room use for a modelrailroad..... a glimpse of...

I don't have yet a big layout, but Im workin' on. It will be a walkaround style, roughly 6.5 m x 4 m (21' x 13'), point to point as I'm quickly bored by the sight of trains turning round, running and running the same trip, and as railroads are built for transportation from a point A to B. It...

I wonder how much of a big layout I could fit in 10x4ft in Z?

Hi guys, in Yahoo Groups Z scale (1500 or so members around the world) the oldest guy is about 85...So as I'm only 41 it leaves me some god years with Z scale! And as Z scale is about 3/4 of N scale, when considering covered surface, it drives to a ratio of one to two, or so. Interresting, no...

    Pictures of your Z scales

As far as I know Marklin prices relative to their Z scale stuff has always been in the same price range. Micro-Trains Line stuff is a little bit cheaper. AZL stuff is more expensive (except their F59PHI and forecoming SD70/75 as their shell is plastic injected) as it is brass built. I've no idea...

I wonder how much of a big layout I could fit in 10x4ft in Z?

Hi guys, myself I've been involved in Z for 8 years now, as I definitively like the possibilities of this scale. I'm currently working on a 21' x 15' walkaround layout, and my tightest curves are 50 cm / 20". When I have enough track layed I will start to run 80-car trains. For this purpose I've...

Euh SmolderZ, sorry again, but I'm sure you should divide this price half...Let's consider a $120 MTL F7, a handle of $20 MTL freight cars, a few $20 Marklin turnouts, two $40 packs of MTL flextrack, a $100 powerpack, a few IBL cork roadbed packs, afew lumber and an old briefcase, and you have...

    Pictures of your Z scales

Hello, myself I'm building a 6.5 x 4 meter (21' x 15') walkaround layout, which will be showing chosen locations of the Tehachapi Pass. Why Z, and not N or even HO? Because I really want to have broad curves, as my minimum radii are 50cm / 20", and I want to operate LOONNGG trains (up to 80...

    My Z-Scale SD45

Nice work Smolder Z! About Marklin switches, as I definitively hate thes f&#@in' lateral mechanisms and black boxes, I've removed them, and put Tortoises under the benchwork to power them. I'm happy with the result. If you want to see more about this, go to: http://www.creativelement.com/z...
