    Wheres that Mile's Fella Gone?

MilesWestern (or something like that) used to post here, and in another forum I frequent, rather often...and while I sometimes brushed his posts off as too immature, I'd be interested to know what happened to him...he occasionally had something interesting to say. I know he made it through...

Do CN freight trains have a schedule ?

Pretty well anything running west of Montreal (mainline wise) will be busy...the corridor towards Dorval is busy. Probably a train every half-hour or so, at peak times. Sometimes more, sometimes less. At least, it was like that the last time I was there. The only CN number most people would...

    Not Amtrak ... this time

It does look like the CabCar was leading, and it also looks like it exploded on impact. Look at the burn marks and smoke damage. Thats not caused by something exploding beside the train...thats hitting the front and exploding. I pity the crew...i've riden in a CabCar at 70Mph before. Hitting...

    proto 2000 GP60 & SD38

Catt, Do you happen to know if the new LL GP38-2, if/when they do come out, are going to accept an already-available decoder (ala the Digitrax decoders for Atlas units), or is it going to be some totally new, off the wall thing from some obscure manufacturer? Or worse, is it going to be...

    proto 2000 GP60 & SD38

N-scale SD38?? The N-scale LL GP60 isn't very DCC-friendly. Frame needs to be milled. Several places offer this service...Aztec is one of the best names in the buisness. Another company that does equally good work is Spillage Loco Works. Both will modify the frame so a hard-wired decoder will...

    kids derailed train

Green_elite, I know where your comming from....i'm 17 now, but i was 14 when i first got into model railroad, and railfanning. It's not bad in my local area, the cops know me and most (all?) of the crew on the local shortline know me by name. So i don't get hassled much. Even with CN it isn't...

    kids derailed train

Ralph, Depends how old they are...I'm not sure of the exact age in Canada, but i think it's anyone over 19 is considered an adult. But, if your younger then 19, and do something serious, and they can prove you knew what you were doing (knew it was wrong, or whatever), you can br tried as an...

    kids derailed train

They'll get off with a slap on the wrists and a lollypop. Or at least they would in Canada. And thats what p***es me off about our legal system. But, to avoid the politics and give something useful to this post... Back in the mid-90's, a then-teenager was the sole reason a VIA Rail passenger...

Feedback for New Layout -CN & CBCNS

I would, but that wouldn't be realistic or prototypical. Some of what i've done on this layout isn't prototypical, but it represents the area well enough that anyone who even sees the layout and knows the Truro area could make the connection. Thanks for the comments though! AR

Feedback for New Layout -CN & CBCNS

Okay, Hands up...how many here have been to Truro? How many remember the exact trackplan? I'm the one that designed the layout for John, so i figured i'd step in and field some of the questions. John is using prebuilt shelving, and even getting this much space took some convincing with the...

    Articulated Autoracks.

I've got at least one of both the Atlas and Athearn articulated racks...actually, while i only own one of the Athearn ones, i own 4 of the Atlas ones, with a couple more comming next release. I like the Atlas ones more, as they look better then the Athearn ones, especially where it...

    highway posts

http://www.scale-train.com http://www.dannowicki.com Both makes signs, and i think both make signs similar to the one you made. I quickly skimmed the sites tonight. i've dealt with them both, and am personal friends with Alain, of Scale-Train. AR

    Bachmann's Centennial N-scale Set

Usually, i shy away from Bachmann at all costs...never was a huge fan of much of their stuff, Spectrum or otherwise. The only reason i was even considering this was because i could get it for a fairly good price, and the locomotive is one not usually seen. At least, not by me. As for train...

    undecorated freight cars

Micro-Trains does make some Undec cars, as does Intermountain. I have to ask, though...why do you want to stay away from Atlas products? AR

    Interesting diesel lineup in Seattle

Hey, I've probably asked you this before, but where in Nova Scotia are you? Since we're on the subject... In Fairview Yard, in Halifax, outside power is pretty common. Just off the top of my head, without looking back at my notes, i've seen CSX, BNSF, NS, BCRail, WC, IC, CP and SF in Halifax...

    Bachmann's Centennial N-scale Set

Hey Guys, Does the N-scale Bachmann Centennial Set (#24007) run alright? It's their Standard line, not plus or spectrum, so i'm wondering if that means it's of a lesser quality? How easy is it to put a decoder in it? I'm not deadset on getting it, nor am i sure i can afford it, but if it...

    car road

Okay, so you know the road is, lets say, 15-feet across, right? So, you take that 15 real feet and multiply it by 12 to get 180 real Inches. Divide those inches by 160 to reduce to N-scale. The math looks like this: 15*12=180 180/160=1.125 1.125 inches is how wide a 15-foot road is going to be...

    car road

Depends on the road....I've found that about 12-feet per lane seems to work, so i've been making my more rural roads about 25 feet wide for a two-lane road. I've got a highway bridge that has 15 feet per lane, making it over 60-feet wide. AR
