Re-numbering Number Boards That's a great idea Mike! I have a set of ATSF F3s where I need to renumber the "tail end" A Unit. I want to label it 21C, I could spend 55$ for another A Unit to get the proper numberboards (at least there are 2 sets in the box), but I hadn't thought of scraping...

    Pictures For You!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great Layout Welcome to the Gauge Scott, Congrats on your making the 2004 Great Model Railroads issue. My layout will be a little smaller than your but the same basic shape. (12x20 room). So I may have to ask you a few questions when I get the chance.

    Does anyone know this outfit?

Wig Wag I'll add my praise for Wig Wag Trains. I have been buying my stuff through them and have been completely satisfied. I have even called him (George Canham) up a couple of times and he is always enthusiastic about talking trains and his business. I just hope I can get them to come to a...

The layout I made from The Box

Great Scene and Question Great scene and model, but I am embarrased (a little, but not two much) about the following question: What does LPB stand for? I think I figured out Little People (B?) or Little Plastic (Beauties?). Can someone pride a code breakdown. I also see some LP? for workers...

    MORE N Scale Steam

Sound! I would like to see the ability to add or use a combo decoder/sound decoder with either a built in speaker or the ability to add the speaker in the tender. I have a friend with some Sn3 steam locos that sound really great!

Great Job Nice paint job! You're a regular paint factory. If you do another, maybe go through the steps you took.

    Advice needed on spur

My vote I vote for the straight spur. Move the building to align with the track (like it looks like now with the left spur). This will open up some space between the hill and the front of the factory for maybe a road.

New to forum - Mini layout tour

Wow and Welcome Alex, Welcome to The Gauge. That's a great layout and a really great trestle. I am inspired to try one too. I made baby steps on my proposed layout. I started moving some furniture out of the area in the basement that will become the train room. Keep us posted on your progress!

    Kettle Valley fire.

Great Ride Wow, Those pictures are great! I would have loved to take my mountain bike out there and ride. (not to hilly as far as mountain biking goes, but the scenery!) Here in St. Louis there is a state park trail called Katy Trail that is an old rail right of way that has been turned...

    Cork roadbed widness

I think I see I think I see... I thought 3/4" was a bit too thin (at least looking at my own track samples and a ruler). But, by keeping the base less wide, you'll be able to profile the ballast to look the same, it'll just take a little more ballast. I assume you figured out the cost per...

Need help on making N scale pine trees

Pine Trees It just so happens that I got to learn to make some Pine trees at the Mississippi Valley N Scalers club meeting yesterday. I saw the president taking pictures, but I don't see them yet on the website. But here is what we did: 1) Bamboo skewers (kabob?) stained with a brownish...

    Cork roadbed widness

Cutting your own SD90, Did you bevel the edges? is the top profile 3/4" wide or the bottom? If you did bevel the edges, how did you go about doing it?

    Track Cleaning

I Guess it Works I would not have thought that Masonite would be abrasive enough to clean the track. I have used a brite-boy by hand to clean some tracks. (at a local small club/gathering, where the new guy gets to start at the bottom, cleaning track ;-) I wonder if its not really that...

    Track Cleaning

Material Question Are you folks talking about Masonite, the board generally used for backdrops? or something like a scotch-brite pad, the green pad made of tiny plastic strands all randomly woven together. You know, to clean pots and pans?

    Jersey Central Reefer

Great Looks That's a really "dirty", as in good, looking box car. I am going to have to learn to do that myself. I'd love to see more examples of your weathering effects!
