Real Bullet Trains to come to America

Atlanta's businesses are abuzz with a new legislation proposed by John Kerry (D-MA) that will put atlanta as one of several hubs for 11 high speed passenger rail lines that will cross-cross the country. The proposed $8 Billion project would establish new, no-grade crossing high-speed...

    a new plan.

Hi all! I'm posting again for the first time in a while, because my financial clouds are finally clearing up! I have space for a new layout to be composed of 2 doors laid in an L shape (80x30" doors, for an L shape of 80x110, with a 30" depth.) in a spare bedroom that gets shared with...

In isn't Half-HO HO *is* 'half-O' N is 54% of HO. the statement about isles is also true. I estimate a 4x8 in HO is about 2.5x4.5 in N.

    New Nscale plan, first draft

an update I've played a little with the industrial switching area, creating an inglenook yard and 5 industries to switch off the yard. It'll be a little workout spot for my SW900/1200. It can take an incoming train or assemble a 5-unit local in the inglenook. This version is also colored...

    Drawing a blank

note quite, russ thats not two separate items. Instead, its a description of the curve: on the outside of the yard, a simple U shape, on the long run, the more balloon-shaped curves of the dogbone.

    Shinkasen turning radius?

which one? Which of the KATO models do you have? a little research shows they reccommend 315mm (12-3/8") track for units like the Nozomi 500.

    New Nscale plan, first draft

Its based on a mod to one of his track plans I made on a door back in 2003. I'm also probably going to elevate that S curve around the yard by about 1" (a 2% grade for 10 segments) to add some separation. And yeah, in N a 50' boxcar is only 4" long and each segment is 5".

    New Nscale plan, first draft

this is a first draft of my two-door trackplan. It has a min radious of 11" (with some 19", 12-3/8 and 13-3/4 curves as well). It fits some of my planes: Its a double folded dogbone (with no less than 3 dogbone curves), has 2 levels, and the industrial switching area and the yard can be...

    Drawing a blank

Jambo: I know Mike's place well, but nothing new there since 2003. PGandW: With the base height of 30", plus 1" for the door, and 2+" of foam, the track will be about 33" and elevation levels will push to maybe 36". plenty tall enough for my preferences 13-3/4" track is available from Kato...

    Shinkasen turning radius?

It *is* a BULLET train... I'd think a Shinkasen would be the one model where you push the throttle knob all the way to max in order to be prototypical

    Shinkasen turning radius?

I've been looking at getting a Japanese Bullet train for N-scale, either KATO or TOMIX. What are the minimum and reccomended radii for these long trains?

    Drawing a blank

Hi all. I'm trying to brainstorm my new plan but I'm drawing a blank. Here's what I have for room: Gauge: N scale track bed: 2 hollow core doors laid in an L-shape, for an 80" x 110" space, with a 30" depth. Height of the doors will be approximately 30" off the ground (most...

    Hi again all!

Dice. My small layout uses the Inglenook Sidings as a yard, and I roll a d8 5 times for the outgoing manifest, rerolling duplicates. Then a d6 for where each car goes on my industries (again, rerolling duplicates). This gives me (8*7*6*5*4) * (6*5*4*3*2) possibilities, this...
