    Z newbie needs general advice...

I use Peco flextrack, and it's nice. It's hard to get the impossibly small rail joiners on them, though! The marklin American steam sets are very nice runners I hear... As for trackplaning, I use Microsoft paint. I draw the outline of the benchwork,a dn make lines to make a trackplan...

Former D&RGW Moffat Route Tunnel District video

Video I shot it (low-quality, 2MB) on my digital still camera--it apparently does double-duty. It was raining cats and dogs, but still impressive, trackside. This is Tunnel 19, about 32 miles from Denver, at dusk.

    Altas parts help?

    What part numbers do I need for Atlas Geep 40, 30, 35, and SD50/60 slow-speed motors? I need one of a 50, and for several Geeps: 2-GP30's, 2-35's, and a 40.

    Kato Streamline: UP or Zephyr....

You could very prototypically run just the 5 domes, and a set of F's as power, for a believeable Rio Grande Zephyr.. More shots Here! The CZ ran with F3's in an ABBA consist, readily available on ebay... Sold out elsewhere, hence my AAA set... The steam generators came on B units only on...

    300 piece kit..

CSX, Ambroid Pro-Weld, and Tenax 7-R work a bit better on styrene kits, stick your fingers to the model less, and grabs quickly. Looks nice! Now I know why I don't have one of those.... Too many parts! Should be huge, though!

    Chevy, Ford, or Mopar?

MOtor PARts Division of Chrysler would work as well. :p :D Good to see ya, B-D!

    Chevy, Ford, or Mopar?

Mopar! Hands-down. Oh, my bad.. I hate to start a flame war, but I think (out of my fleet) Kato makes a very stout engine. I have Atlas, IM, LL, and Kato engines, and the ones I run for visitors are the Kato SD40-2's. They are reliable, need no tuning after a break-in period, pull well, and...

Another idea for the Laggan Sub!

Mike, Uncle Pete did the same thing, in 1953. The original doubletrack transcon up Sherman Hill is on a 1.5% grade. Mos trains back then were so large, they had to doublehead Big Boy/Challenger locomotives! Even the big 4-8-8-4's couldn't handle the tonnage unassisted. So they built a...

Yeah, I don't have any D&RGW Trainworx hoppers, so my BN cars had to be a stand-in... I added some grime to the BN cars, but I guess not enough...

    Show us your 'improved' photos!

I took a generic shot of clean tunnel motors, and added some photoshop magic: heat, sand dust, dirt/grime, weathering, etc. What do you think?

Tunnel Motors on the BN High Prairie Sub!!

Thanks much! I am an autorack junkie! As for the sawmill, I wanted to make it look as beaten, unmaintained and weathered as possible. I drybrushed, rather heavily, atop the molded red sawmill sides a coat of Grimy Black, and left just enough red showing to give the appearance of weathered...

Tunnel Motors on the BN High Prairie Sub!!

Thanks, Robin! Actually, with summer heating up, literally/figuratively, I have been busy lately. In between paintball games, weddings/other outings, BBQ's, and railfanning I don't have much time even during the week to play trains! Summer is too busy at times.

Guys, Thanks for the kind words. fifer, That's the way they come outta the box, all I did, was add the supplied cab sun shades. They even come with factory-installed MT couplers! Belmarvalley, The camera is a Fujifilm Finepix S5000. About 380 for most online retailers, prolly...

Tunnel Motors on the BN High Prairie Sub!!

Thanks, folks! I would have to have one heckuva train to need 5 SD40-2's on the point.... Those 17 autoracks behind require only two units. One unit alone slips, as the cars are heavily weighted. Prolly too heavy, but boy, do they run well!
