    SP smoothside wagon

"The Lark" was the night time version of the "Daylight" and was generally used on the same routes. These trains would have more sleepers and head end cars (mail) than the Daylights. Photos of these cars in "Daylight" consists was not rare. To fill out the mail cars check www.wheelsoftime.com...

    Tunnel Motor shots!

Why oh why... In the nearby "Favourite SD" post the Zscale tunnel motor (admittedly brass) is FAR superior to the IM model. Please stop, in the name of humanity....

Desert Mountains - N-Trak Module in progress

Bikerdad, Consider that crackle paint to make the cracked surface of the lake bed then another light coat to seal it. Would be VERY cool...

Desert Mountains - N-Trak Module in progress

After the second picture, all I want to know is where are you planning to get a N scale cyote and roadrunner.... Looks great, a lot like New Mexico along Interstate 10...

    How to lower a locomotive?

DD40 running Running quality of the 2 motor version is not all that dissimilar to the Kato SD40-2 that they will be paired with except that the electrical pickup from trucks to frame is poor. The oval loops over the trucks balance nicely, but do not conduct power to the split frame halves...

    How to lower a locomotive?

Sorry Russ, I forgot to mention that these are NScale units. I was hoping for some guidance before attacking the split frame and mounting points. While the tank is generally high off the rails I was planning to wrap the fuel tank to build it up to a more realiastic size.

    How to lower a locomotive?

All, Received a couple of Spectrum DD40AX units (thanks Absnut) and need to know if there is a well documented method to lower the units to correct walkway height. I would like to match the Kato SD40-2 walkway in this "Fast Forty Sandwich". Also, is there anyone with experience correcting the...

    Kato's handrails and walkway.

Kato handrails I aviod that sort of problem by ordering the most correct handail colour set from Kato. At $5.00US and no paint flake worries it is a bargain in my book...

    Help SP cabooses

How accurate do you want it? Overland has several SP C50-x classes in stock of late... ~$200.00US is too rich for me... ConCor un modified is nice for the later C40-x classes Walthers is a bit closer to the C50-x series and has a more accurate height bay window. Atlas has a Cotton Belt wide...

hOOters HO scale building! Must see!

Needs about 25 pickup trucks in the parking lot... Also a number of random flashing blue LEDs to simulate the televisions. I agree, where is the front door "greeter".

    Cushion underframe caboose?

Since my SD38-2 project is delayed by Atlas' summer shutdown (still no GP38 shells) I went looking for a new project. Thinking about a fleet of SP C-40-8 and C-50-7,8,9 cabeese. Managed the end doors and bay windows but cannot see the best way to proceed on couplers. The Micro-Trains...

Sanity check.... Colton switcher, circa 1985

Dan, Now that decision is out of the way... It's a MUST do. The more I look at images I am torn between reshaping SD40-2 dynamics rather than using SD35 dynamics. A real headscratcher tonight....

Sanity check.... Colton switcher, circa 1985

Dan, Thanks for the images. Special that 2972 is one of the units chosen for the project along with 2974. Is there a higher resolution version of the first image? The shadowy reversed LOS ANGELES assignment and model number on the cab is one item that just begs to be modeled.

Sanity check.... Colton switcher, circa 1985

Thank you all for the advice and encouragement Dan, I think we are in lock step except sale and a few prototype specific details. Units are SD38-2 purchased specifically by SP for service at the Colton, CA yard, The slugs joined them later and were eventually replaced by other SP...
