    Erie & Southern - N Scale

2-8-2 I have also found two other plans that are quite similar, but they both use a lower level staging area and reversing loops. One is the NP layout shown in the Jan 2006 MR. The other is "The Upper Mississippi Railroad" shown in 20 Custom Designed Track Plans by John Armstrong. I am...

    Erie & Southern - N Scale

I've been looking at this plan a lot in the last few weeks - it appeared in MR April 1957, designed by John Armstong. There is a 5x9 version for HO, and than this L shaped one. CNW, 2-8-2 has excluded a small engine facility that appears on the original plan - it is located in the open area...

    Inventory software

I just finished doing this type of inventory with Microsoft Excel. Quite simple, has all of the info that RR200 has, plus other custom columns, is sortable and searchable, exportable in numerous formats, etc etc. Whatever has the shortest learning curve for you I would think would be the best .. .

    Some pics of my layout

Jack; very nice work indeed. Are you still having fun operating this layout? Just wondering if the track plan keeps you interested. I would like to know what type/size track, switches and switch machines you used. also, very nice composition in your photographs! :thumb: :thumb: fred

    A small "N" dream layout?

    Beginners help with multiple locos

Gavin; that is a great looking photo - just the kind of thing I like! Here's another newbie question - the fourth unit is running long hood forward - what do you need to do with the wiring to accomplish this - reverse the polarity I would think? Haven't done that type of thing, so is it...

    Beginners help with multiple locos

Thanks David - that's the info I was looking for and what I thought. My main concern is avoiding mechanical wear and tear, so I guess I'll have to do some speed trials to try to match the locos up the best that I can, or avoid the consist idea until I go with DCC. appreciate the info!! :)...

    Beginners help with multiple locos

I';m considering the MRC prodigy system - but right now my question and situation is much more basic. I'd like to know in a no block system, what is the effect on each engines drive train. I understand block wiring, and will probably make the plunge in to DCC without doing a complete block...

    Beginners help with multiple locos

Hello all; I've been lurking here for a month or so, lurking in and out of Model Railroad mags for twenty odd years, so I FINALLY decided to buy some N scale locos and rolling stock and get after it once and for all. So . . .a basic question, which I hope isn't too stupid. I have a few...
