    Layout in a Shipping Container?

Funny, I was having the same thoughts on this subject as all you. M y parents bought an older single wide mobile home at a local auction for $150, which they use for storge for their business. I 'd also thought about the caboose for a trainroom. I even had an opportunity to buy one about a...

    Prototype paint schemes

Well, haven't found any clor pic's yet, but I have found some b&w ones and a description of the colors. The basic colors are "zephyr" blue and white, with a red cab roof. Next questino...what color is "zephyr" blue? Is a standard railroad color or something? Also found out that the...

Q about paper / card stock buildings

How about gluing the cardstock building sides to pieces of foamcore, cut from sheets? Seems to me I read in a magazine somewhere that this method works OK, even for scratchbuilding.

    My L H S come on in

I don't have any pictures of the 2 main shops near me (50 miles away), but here are brief descriptions: One is called Battlefield Station. It's mostly trains with a good size model and RC car section. It's a fairly new store, I think within the last few years, and is run by several people...

    Undecorated locomotives

Since it's proving to be an impossible task to find steam locomotives with the road name I'm looking for (Frisco), I guess it's up to me to create them from undecorated units. Question is, where is the best place to find decals for these hard-to-find roadnames. I'm looking specifically for...

    need advise (scroll saw)

Yes, practice, practice, practice. One of the first things you'll notice is that you can't push the wood in straight and expect to cut a straight line (like trying to follow a straight line drawn on a piece of wood). You'll need to push it in at a slight angle. Also, if your saw is made to...

    need advise (scroll saw)

Forgot to mention, I also used mine for cutting foam core profiles on my diorama.

    need advise (scroll saw)

So far, in this new hobby for me, I've used my scroll saw for cutting scale strip wood from thin sheets, for scratchbuilding purposes. I've also used it for cutting a round base for my water tower project. Another thing I've experimented with is cutting small scale brackets, both N and HO, for...

    Collectibles ????

There are a couple of other things that make items "collectible", at least in my opinion. A - An item that was never meant to be collectible in the first place, is more likely to be collectible. Items that say "limited edition" or "collectors item" on them, right from the manufacturer, are...

    Magazines

You can always find Model Railroader or Railroad Model Craftsman at various places very cheaply. I have bought them by the boxfull (50-100 copies) for under $10. My local hobby shops have them for .75 each, but that's about the extent of the variety you find. Sometimes you can get TRAINS...

    Magazines

If you plan on looking for back issues of N-Scale on ebay, be prepared to pay good money. I just paid $40+ for 18 back issues. But still, it's cheaper than ordering them directly from the magazine itself.

    Magazines

I didn't mention it because I wasn't aware of it:confused: I just started buying N-Scale and they must have been out of the current edition of the one you mentioned. I'll have to look for it too.:)

    Magazines

The one I've started buying is simply called "N-Scale", put out by Hundman Publishing. It comes out every 2 months. I'm not sure if normal newstands or bookstores carry it or not, I buy it at my local hobby store. You can also find back issues on ebay. It's a very nice magazine.:)

    Scratch built fish cannery

dave - Thanks for the tip on the MR'ing book. I've collected alot of instructionals, and read most of them, prior to actaully starting on this venture, but that is one I don't have. I will surely look for it. My first actual scratchbuilt structure, which I am working on now, is made almost...

    Scratch built fish cannery

...and I thought I was being innovative by using cedar cigar wrappers for wood supplies:( . I guess nothing is new under the sun;) . The cannery looks real cool!. It's scratchbuilt structures like your's, and most of the others' here as well, that provides inspiration for us amateurs.:)

    A New Supply of "Material"

Like you, I have also been bitten by the bug. Now, when I am out at flea markets estate sales and garage sales, looking for ebay items, I also look for scratcbuilding materials, and RR'ing supplies. I've passed up many opportunities to buy N-gauge trains in the past, because I wasn't into it...

    First Progress Photos

That's some very impressive modeling! Scratchbuilt structures, especially when done plank-by-plank, seem to be so full of character and adding finishing details is like extra frosting on the cake. :)

    Model RR Clubs

I must say I've never thought about joining a MR club. If they are like other types of hobby related clubs, then the scenarios will probably be the same. I also find that by having friends or gettogethers a much more rewarding and less confrontational experience. Yes, you may not be able to...

    My first Model RR project

Thanks for the wonderful words of encouragement:D :D :D :D :D . Rich - From what I understand about covered bridges (admittedly not much), there use for RR was concentrated in the eastern states of the U.S. The one I am building is being loosely modeled after a prototype in Vermont. Gavin...
