    Weathering wagons & question

While seeing other roads' locomotives is quite common today, it wasn't particularily common prior to the 1980's, unless there was a locomotive factory on line (Alco, EMD, etc) Note TTX dates to 1956, although FURX is much newer. As to Canadian cars being rare on Southern Rails prior to the...

Do you all prefer AMI Instant Roadbed or Cork Roadbed?

None of the above. It's all about the Woodland Scenics roadbed.

    GP-38 Question

Can't really help with your loco problems, but I can with the caboose. The trick is to fill the hole with some 1/8" Styrene tubing (Glue it in), then mount the better trucks to the tubing. The other possibility is to simply cut the coupler mount off the trucks, replace the cheapo wheels...

MDC Got Bought (we all know)

I'm suspecting that Blue Box will get thinned down as the better stuff gets moved over to RTR, and will eventually be comprised of the cheap stuff they'll never get more money for (Widebody loco's, F7's, Cabooses in all those incorrect roadnames and three-dome tanks for starters)

Is Ho The Same As 00??

No, it's always been 1:76, It's pretty much midway between HO and S scale. American Flyer was S Scale, while Lionel has always hovered around 1:48 O (Some of their stuff was almost S scale in size though, it varied widely to ensure operation on O27 curves, which is why the small Lionel stuff...

Is Ho The Same As 00??

OO is not the metric equivalent of HO, it's another scale entirely. There are two kinds of OO. Both are 4mm scale (1:76), British outline OO runs on HO Gauge track, while US OO (Which is almost completely dead) runs on 19mm OO Gauge track. Both are mixed metric/imperial scales (3.5mm to the...

GOSH...I am full of questions this morning...

There are other concerns. One is the programming. You can turn of DC support, and not all DCC systems support 4 digit addresses, so if you have a loco with a 4 digit address and DC turned off, it won't work on a DC layout or a 2 digit DCC system like the MRC Prodigy. Of course, on the DCC...

Okay folks let's talk reversing loops...

Yes, the automatic reverser works fine with DC powered turnout motors (It isn't wired into the turnut controls, just the track.) CharlesH.: That's MRC's DCC Automatic Reverser module, AFAIK it only works with DCC.

Kato GP35 shell on newer Athearn drive??

If the Kato shell fits the RTR Frame, it should fit a BB Frame with the newer motor, since they should be identical (The RPP GP35 fits the Athearn BB Frame)

Kato GP35 shell on newer Athearn drive??

brakie: Can't use the Kato hatch on the current Athearn GP35, it's a widebody. The RTR GP35 will be scale width(It's an updated RPP shell) and should take the hatch, but it will be available in non-dynamic.

pro's & con's of ho gauge track mfgr's, atlas, peco, walthers

ME Flex is very stiff, and a little fragile, but the spike detail is the best looking. By far the best looking flextrack available for HO. Atlas Code 100 is very nice to work with, quite flexible, tough, but the detail (Spikes, tieplates) is about O-Scale in size. Probably best for hidden...

Kato GP35 shell on newer Athearn drive??

The RPP shell is designed to fit the Athearn Drive. Not sure about the Kato fitting, might take some milling.

Why Bash it? Kaslo makes a shell. Check thier website for info (It's sold through another Hbby shop). Kaslo also does the SD50F and SD60F, and they have a Dash 8-40CM on the way.

Yes, the SD40-2F Red Barn was in a Draper-Taper style body, but they were CP units (And the last SD40-2's produced, in 1989, 7 years after the SD50 was introduced.)

I'm not sure where the rebuilds happened. As to how old they look, well, I'm not sure if they got entirely new paint when the rebuild happened. I'm working from info on the CNLines SIG webpage, which has solid data about which locomotives were rebuilt and when, but not where.

GMD1u's #1400-1402 were rebuilt from 1900 series B-B GMD1's #'s 1913,1916 & 1917. These were the first GMD1u's rebuilt as far as I can tell, in 1989. There were only 18 B-B GMD1's originally built. All B-B with Steam generators. the next 21 units (1403-1423) were from 1000 series GMD1's...
