    Coaling Tower

There is a paperback book called "The Erie Railroad Rochester Division" by William Reed Gordon. If you don't already have this book you should find a copy. I have seen them on Ebay occasionally. Also, in the Erie Railfan magazine Vol. 5 No. 1, there is an article about the Livonia NY station...

    Remote Atlas Switches

The new ones are much better than the old ones. My old layout had the old ones and the points would always get dirty and not conduct electricity. The points were made of a cast zinc, terrible for electrical contact. You can't even solder feeds to them. The new one have been on my layout for...

    A&P Warehouse - In Progress

"Let me know what you think so far." Frank, I avoid thinking when I can. The building looks great. It has some great possibilities for other applications as well. Signage makes the building. It really adds life to it. Also, you can have trucks and freight cars loading and unloading. Very cool.

Badger Airbrush Questions and brief intro

Much of what has been said is true. Use the airbrush you have with the canned air and hot water to see if you like it and if you feel that you will be using it enough to justify the cost. When you are ready, I have found three excellent airbrushes by Badger. The 155 Anthem, the 360 Universal and...

    Metal water tower roof

I have been playing around with Polly Scale ATSF silver. It's great, you can mix in other Polly Scale colors to give you all kinds of effects. You mix black and a little blue and you get graphite, some rust and you get the look of bare metal that has started to rust. Great stuff, try it. You can...

    early era

I'm basing an HO railroad on that time period. If you want some inspiration, get the book called "The Old Up & Down, the Catskill mountain branch of the NYC". Lots of great photos. Also, the book series from the Railroadians called "The Next Station Will Be..." shows Erie railroad stations from...

    early era

Model Die Casting (Roundhouse) makes a bunch of them. Passenger cars, frieght cars and 2 locos (a 2-8-0 and a 2-6-0) as well as a nice wood caboose. Fine N scale also has a couple of nice pieces.

    Update on the Nantahala Midland

That's a great sight!! Starting over is refreshing and liberating. Your next attempt will always be better. That vaccume cleaner does have a guilty face though.

    painting a UP big boy

Get some Polly Scale ATSF silver and mix in some black until it looks right to you. Brush paint a little on a scrap piece and see how it looks once it's dry then make adjustments from there.

    Poster board backdrops

Here's another one (just what you needed, right?). Styrene. A buddy of mine used 1/8" sheets of styrene and it worked out very well. He got it from a plastic supply place and it wasn't all that expensive. He said it was very flexible yet strong.

    V Groove siding...how????

Fred, that is one beautiful coal tower. I prefer to work in styrene because it moves along a bit faster. However, I built a gang of O&W caboose kits recently that were laser cut wood. I found that by coating both sides of the wood components with Krylon crystal clear kept the parts from warping...
