    Suggestions on track plan

Looking for suggestions on a track plan. Size is 2'x12' and it is HO. Minimum radius is 18" with a lot of it 22". Running small equipment (2-6-0, old-time equipment) and the trains will be short 3-4 cars at most. I know that a lot could be done by adding just a small stretch of it with a 4'...

    coupler replacement

I'm in the process of replacing the horn hook couplers on my loco's with some more prototypical types, and have encountered a problem. You can't tell from the picture but the circuluar hole in the base of the horn hook coupler is quite a bit smaller than the hole in the base of the prototypical...

    My son

For any of those who have wondered where I have been the last 3 months, I've had my hands full with this little guy. He is 3 months old, and his grandma had just gotten to him with kisses...poor little guy. Ok, back to trains now.

What does it mean when you see "Sprung" in the description for switch mechanisms?

Long time no see, but I have a question

Hi gang, been offline for quite a while and see a lot of new faces, but some familiars as well. Been lurking when I had the chance but haven't posted in...well...forever. As I have my first baby coming up in Febraury and just finished college (at last) my life is in transit so don't know how...

    Wonderful site

I stumbled onto this website the other day...it is really something. http://www.bat-ad.it/tallpine/ You can ignore the intro, and click the HTML option on the second screen, then click on the "CLICK TO ENTER" in the upper right. You will get a trackplan and several numbers that corrospond...

    need to buy a switcher

Hello all, I am going to buy a switcher and I am looking for suggestions. The choices are: Atlas S-1, S-2, S-3 or S-4 for $39.99 Life like EMD SW9/1200 for $39.99 Which would you suggest, which one would perform the best overall? And can anyone tell me what these roadnames are: FEC...

    Securing ground cover

I have a plaster base to which I need to affix some ground cover (sand ballast, ground foam, etc). Should I just sprinkle it on the dry plaster and spray with a 70/30 mixture of water and white glue? Or do I wet the groundcover with water and dish detergent, then spray with the glue mixture...

    Sculptamold?

I sat down last night and mixed my very first batch of sculptamold. The mix itself had large lumps in it (about 1/4"x1/8" for the very largest) that were composed of not setup plaster but what looked like shredded cardboard. Thinking this was by design I proceeded to add the water to the...

    Navigation Co.'s

I often see the older railways (usually logging routes) had names like Mill Creek RR and Navigation Co. Why were they calling themselves Navigation Companies?

    IHC cars are on sale

Hi, I don't know how good they are but all of IHC's basic cars are on sale for $1.98 - $2.98, these are usually about $5 - $10. Unfortanutly this doesn't include the Log Buggy's, BarnHart Loaders, of MOW cars which are only slightly discounted. Good luck finding the roadnames of your choice...

    IHC Passenger Cars

Well my first passenger cars arrived back on the 31st, and I had my first chance to open and run them last night. Of the 4 that I opened, 3 had trucks that fell to the floor the moment I lifted the cars out of the packaging. On the tracks, the cars lean and wobble horribly. I read that on larger...

    Cumbres & Toltec Scenic RR

Located in Chama NM, this remnant from the past has up to 5 operational Steam Narrow Guage engines that run all-day ecscursions for $60/person. The trip is from Chama, New Mexico to Antonito, Colorado. This trackage was (I beleive) originally Denver and Rio Grande RR trackage, that is now...

    military depot

I have always liked the look of railroads modeled in foreign countries and the selection of german buildings and models is amazing but the cost is high...anyway, I was looking through my Walthers catalog and decided to peak at the military section for the fun of it and there was a diarama of a...

    Easements

Trying to understand what an easement is...is it coming into a turn hard and then easing out of it (the curve gets more gradual the longer it is) or is it like banking on a roadway to counter centrifical force on turns by putting one rail higher than the other? (Also been working on my...

    manual switches

I am probably weird, but I like the old manual switches from yester-year...you know, the ones you actually switched by hand with a little plastic arm (that would break a little too easily). One reason, I admit, was the ease of wiring (it required none) and I always thought they looked...

    Way off topic...but...

I know this is coming out of left field so to speak, but being a reader/writer on many different forums I have noticed something about "the-gauge" and that is the type of people that submit here. The forum feels open and incredibly friendly. Also, people seem to be very understanding and...

    Are you from Utah?

Hello, any of you modelers out there from Utah? I think I posted a similar thread a while back to see if anyone knew of any model clubs in Utah, or actually lived it Utah and wouldn't mind someone browsing their layout. An interesting side note, I saw a couple engines (small like GP38's) that...

    slow board

Things on this forum sure have gotten slow...or maybe I have too much time on my hands when I should be working. Charlie, I wanted to take a look at your layout but couldn't see a link in your post. I tried the link for your homepage in your BIO but that one brought me to a dead link...I'll...
