    WWII train layout

If you are modeling the Eastern front, you could easily use Soviet engines and cars, as the Germans tended to use the rail lines and supplies already in place when they invaded the Soviet Union. I may not be right on this, but I think some of the soviet locomotives (like the Decapod) were...

Help for my 10-year-old's first mountain?

As I was a beginner myself, as we all were, I can testify that your first few attempts may result in a flop, especially if you have high expectations. But if you take it slow, easy and simple I think you will have better luck and be much happier with the result. Really hate to see you get...

    Cumbres N Toltec Scenic RR

My family was supposed to ride this a couple years ago, but because of the fire danger they closed the line...too bad. It is a really great ride (my parents rode it the year before) but I personally prefer the scenery on the Durango and Silverton branch.

Virus Season - the computer kind

Someone who knows the software better than I would have to explain how this works, but in certain email programs, like Outlook, the system keeps a record of people you have emailed, even if you don't have them in your contacts. So if you send an email to a website tech support, then they reply...

    Last Try

My wife and I think they look great, if you want a few suggestions we came to when comparing yours to the real thing (and we are comparing these to Utah skies): The individual shapes you have are perfect, but when you see that many differing sizes it usually means the wind has broken them...

    layout 4 x 8

I haven't seen a lot of 4x8's that will support a roundhouse and 2 trains at once. I know the "Plywood Summits" (which is an Atlas trackplan) has a turntable, a lower run and an upper run with a Y.

    Mantua 2-6-6-2 Articualted Logger

The loco's were sold to the Sumpter about 1939. I'm not sure how long they kept them after that.

    Mantua 2-6-6-2 Articualted Logger

Uintah Railway I happened to grow up near Vernal, UT so I was somewhat fascinated by the Uintah Railway and love that Mantua actually offers a model of their 2-6-6-2T's, but haven't been able to afford one yet. The line was actually narrow guage with a constant 7.5% grade in some places that...

    starting a layout

I took a good look at the turtle creek, and I admit I liked it too. The only problem with 4x8's, and they bring this up in the supplement that someone else mentioned included with the new MR, is the space required to walk around a 4'x8' table often takes up a full room that you could have built...

    trestle pics

Nice The first one looks like they may have started to build a trestle in a straight line (the stub ended track) but something stopped them, I'm not sure but in the photo the ground looks kinda like a slide area so may have not been solid enough for a trestle. The other looks like the...

    Suggestions on track plan

No progress yet. No space right now so I'm still in the design phase. Thanks for the suggestions.

A little beyond the planning stage

Looks nice. I too have a mixture of motive power (a 2-8-0 included) and while mine is a USRA model consolidated yours looks a little older. From my research I have found photos of the USRA 2-8-0 in service until about 1956. However, I am no expert on the prototypes, so I can't say with 100%...

    Suggestions on track plan

Brakie, right you are about the space for an 18" full radius, but there are no complete turns, only partial, so according to the software it will fit. Unless I'm overlooking something  .

    Suggestions on track plan

Looking for suggestions on a track plan. Size is 2'x12' and it is HO. Minimum radius is 18" with a lot of it 22". Running small equipment (2-6-0, old-time equipment) and the trains will be short 3-4 cars at most. I know that a lot could be done by adding just a small stretch of it with a 4'...
