As we were driving home from Missouri this week, we saw this 2-8-2 light Mikado on display in a small park in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. It was built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in May 1927 (builder's #60006), and was originally owned by the Dierks Lumber & Coal Company.

As my wife, son and I were returning home from a trip to Cedar Park/Austin, TX, we saw a freight train carrying gondolas full of gravel heading east on the Austin subdivision of the UPRR. It was heading for Valley Junction, which is just a few miles west of Hearne, TX along U.S. Highway 79.
