    Track Warrants

How is that rare? It just means that particular train is going to hold the main and another is going in the siding. Happens all the time all day on every kind of track warrant controlled line.

    proto alco pa ?

Are there even correct sound recordings available for these models or do they just use a generic diesel sound? Alco and Fairbanks-Morse prime movers have a very distinctive sound to them.

    Tighest radius

I wouldn't run it on anything smaller than 36" curves as it will look much better on the larger curves. That is why I've chosen to stick with purely diesel-powered layouts, very few modelers have the space to do justice to steam era operations.

    Camera Help

If you go so far as to change elements in your photos the editors need to be made aware of that when they receive the photos. There's nothing wrong with the idea itself, just make sure everyone is aware of what has been done.

    Camera Practice

You know, you don't need to send model photos with the first article if it's just about a track plan. You will however need photos of the railroad you're modeling which will necessitate a trip up to Molesto. Cheer up, though, railroad photography is much easier than model photography!

    Submitting to MR and MRC?

That doesn't mean you don't still own your image or text. That just means in the fine print there was a clause for reprinting in a sister publication or special edition. The devil is in the details. What I said is that they will buy publication rights. In the case of an article that may...

    Camera Help

He can't. I checked on his camera already. It doesn't have an aperture priority, shutter priority, or shiftable program mode. The best he can do is flood it with light to force a smaller aperture and faster shutter.

    Submitting to MR and MRC?

They are just being a bit paranoid. At least with Carstens or Kalmbach you won't get screwed. I can't speak for the smaller publishers, however, but since they probably don't pay it really doesn't matter if what they say and do are contrary. Carstens and Kalmbach both pay for one time rights...

    A Update

Says who? (Other than Larry.) The ultimate in space-saving is to omit the industry entirely. After all, you'll switch it the same with or without a building adjacent. Put the spurs parallel to the edge of the layout. Instead of modeling a building flat calling it a building not!

    Camera Help

It's short for single lens reflex. You'd recognize them as cameras with interchangeable lenses. What they offer is total control of making a photograph. You will need to be able to manually set the exposure, focus, and lighting to take the kind of photos needed for publication. You will also...

    Submitting to MR and MRC?

Let's take another stab at this. I left out a rather important point before. Do not tell him you've posted the plan online. You might even want to take it down. An editor doesn't want to pay you for content that's free elsewhere. That doesn't sell magazines. As for the editor's name, the...

    Camera Help

Based on the specifications I'm going to guess you can't manually set the aperture or shutter speed. If this is for your article submissions you really need to use an SLR on a tripod with studio lights or be outdoors.

Real Bullet Trains to come to America

Fat chance. The title of this thread is grossly misleading. This kind of legislation gets propped up every couple years and never goes anywhere. California is the closest of any state to get a high speed rail network; it has been approved by the state's voters and soon bonds will be sold and...

    Submitting to MR and MRC?

If you're a first time contributor you need to have something finished to show them. They won't sign on for an article from an unknown, especially on model building. Your best bet would be to submit a finished plan with text for the first article. If they buy it and publish it then when you've...

    A Update

I was thinking today to reverse the direction of the lead to the grain elevator and run a second track all the way around the right which would give you a single lead that would work for both the yard and the elevator. It wouldn't be a through track in regular operations, but would make the...

    A Update

Shouldn't need a lead up there. This seems like a train-a-day out-and-back style of branch. Nothing to get in the way of if there's only one train running at a time. I thought the one at the bottom was rather a waste since Larry is going to be the only operator, but I thought better of saying...

    A Update

And if you could make one track a car longer then it would be possible to hold a nine car train there, three on the loading track and six on the extra, and load them in equal cuts. Now all he needs is a working Trackmobile in N scale!
  19. R

    A Update

The problem is that a two car track to an elevator will only be able to load one car. Remember that the loader is stationary and the cars are moving. You need to have a track that's nearly twice as long as the string of cars. To load two cars you'll need a three car track, to load ten cars...
