    N Scale Bildg Kits.

Andrew, I'll 2nd everything Bob said. I'll only add that sometimes our greatest successes grow out of our greatest mistakes. There's no greater feeling than acomplishing something by yourself. Good Luck!

    Freelancing

You can go a lot of places with that "what if" scenario. What if Amtrak, Conrail, or CSX had never happened? How about a Genesis locomotive with a consist of super liners in tuscan with keystone heralds? Or an L&N coal drag pulled by a couple of AC-4400's in gray & yellow? And by the wat...

    Freelancing

I guess what I'm driving at here is that, unless you have the means to design & create your own heralds & decals (I don't), then you're going to have to make do with what's available. A cheap & easy (& like Catt says - prototypical) approach would be to take a factory paint job, remove the...

How do you guys feel about using a prototype paint scheme, & re-lettering it for your own RR? Is that cheating?

    Northlandz--amazing model railroad experience

I saw that layout featured on a show I was watching with one of my kids on PBS. He's got a bridge on there that's based on a prototype in Scotland. Just that one bridge is bigger than my whole layout!

    Did Santa bring some goodies?

Gregg, the clock's the one that whistles on the hour, right? Been there - done that. I've got the magnets too. We use them to hang stuff on the family bulliten board, sometimes known as the refridgerator

    HO or N?

Zepher, Step 1. - Give them all the help they need moving into their new place. Step 2. - Change the locks. Step 3. - Begin remodeling.(or in our case, just modeling)

    Did Santa bring some goodies?

OK, I've got to get this Christmas thing off my chest. A lot of model railroaders probably look forward to what Santa will bring, but I'm probably the only one who dreads it. My wife & kids refuse to buy any RR related items for me, citing the reason that I buy them all year long, so they're...

    HO or N?

wt&c, I'm currently modeling in N scale too. I like the size ratio of scenery to train. You san build a pretty convincing version of the appalachians in N scale. I'll continue to work in other scales though. I have a plan. As my daughters move out of the house - BAM! new train room - new scale...

    2" Foam?

I use a little white glue to lay my track, even on plywood & cork roadbed. It pops up pretty easily, if you need it to - a lot easier than pulling all those $#@! nails! Now after it's ballasted - you'll need dynamite to pull it up.

    HO or N?

I know this is being done to death, but I just had to add my little piece here. I've dabbled in O, HO, & N scale modeling. To me, they each have their own quality. They're simply different mediums for expressing the same thing. Shamus, your photo posted above is a good example of what I'm...

    Ntrak Branch Lines.

Sorry Andrew, & Catt. I'm not really up on the club thing, I just remember reading somewhere that SOMEBODY had allowed the use of the Peco track. Once again, sincere apologies to all.

    Ntrak Branch Lines.

Andrew, if you haven't already, check out the code 55 line of N scale track offered by Peco. I love this stuff, & I recommend it to anyone modeling in N scale. It's compatible with the larger code rail, & I think it's now accepted by the NMRA for use on modules built to N-Trak standards.

    Starting

I'll 2nd Zepher's opinion Alex. I think it's a good idea to get part of your layout up & running, & then move on to another section. Sorry Alex, I'm not real familiar with British prototypes, but a modern U.S. freight terminal might consist of some type of intermodal or container facility, bulk...

    Freelancing

That sounds really interesting, Brian. I've always toyed with the idea of free-lancing. If you guys keep these postings up, you might make a convert of me yet.

    kato Bridges.

Andrew, would you be up for scratch building some abutments? One of my favorite materials for N scale abutments are brick walls from HO structure kits. Painted & weathered, they look about right for a cut-stone wall in N scale. I've also used posterboard, & foam core board to simulate concrete...

    kato Bridges.

Andrew, do you mean abutments that support the ends of the bridge? Or do you mean piers, that support elevated track?

    HO or N?

Hey Mike, I think HO is a good choice for beginners. The availability of products enables you to get a feel for what you want to do with the hobby. Just remember, nothing's ever carved in stone, if you don't like something, change it. The best piece of advice I can give you though, is no matter...
